Swansea Tennis Club is a family-friendly, not-for-profit, community tennis club located at 1 Rennie Terrace, Toronto. Four hard surface tennis courts are owned and ultimately controlled by the City of Toronto. The Swansea Tennis Club partners with the City of Toronto to receive preferential access to the courts in exchange for managing the courts and running various programs promoting tennis. The Club collects membership fees, manages an annual budget and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors elected by the membership each year.

The club operates annually between the months of April – October.

Swansea Community Tennis Club invites qualified Head Pro Tennis Coaches to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) to provide the Swansea Tennis Club high-level coaching and tennis-related services. Membership at the club is focused on the local community and the club’s members are comprised of all playing levels -beginner, intermediate and advanced.

Qualifications

A qualified coach is a teacher, mentor and role model for any club, and ultimately helps people discover and nurture a passion for tennis. The Swansea Tennis club is seeking qualified Tennis Coaches who can:

  • Teach fundamental skills, techniques and strategies to enhance players’ performance and improve their overall game. Instructions should be suitable based on objectives, age, skill levels and learning styles in a safe and secure learning environment.
  • Deliver current Juniors’ programming at the club and Adult coaching.
  • Plan, manage and deliver after-school and summer camps for kids.
  • Conduct group and individual tennis lessons for various ages and skill levels.
  • Apply individual ratings to ALL members of the club this year & incorporate a rating system for new members for subsequent years. Assess and provide constructive feedback to players on their strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Provide quality leadership and a positive, highly visible, and engaging style with an accessible and approachable personality.
  • Attend/Assist with Social Events when needed.
  • Dedicate a reasonable amount of time every week as Head Pro Coach of Swansea Tennis Club.
  • Initiate and maintain open dialog with the Club’s Training Director and/or Club Manager.
  • Possess knowledge of Court Reserve Online Billing and Reservation System and/or other court booking systems. (Willingness to learn Court Reserve system if not familiar).
  • Be personable and outgoing with the ability to engage members of all ages and playing levels.
  • Administer consistent, efficient and seamless daily coaching operations of tennis at the Club.
  • Provide members and guests with an environment that meets the values of the Club.
  • Stay tuned in with the coaching trends in the industry.

Traditionally, these programs have been very well attended by Swansea Tennis Club members in addition to non-member programming from the neighbourhood community.

Coaches must be willing to take a proactive role in marketing and growing their business while delivering top-quality programs to our members and other stakeholders. The selected coach must also work collaboratively with the Board of Directors of the Club to jointly offer positive experiences for all club stakeholders.

Experience and Requirements

  • Tennis Canada Coach Level 2 or equivalent certification
  • Minimum 5 years experience coaching tennis
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector & Police Check, to be updated every year
  • Current First Aid certification
  • Coach Liability Insurance

Coaching Abilities & Attributes

  • Strong leadership and communication skills including effective resolution skills and inspire solutions for the best member experience.
  • Passionate for the sport, with an energetic; dynamic personality to engage players.
  • Strong relationship-building, conflict resolution and customer service skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with students, parents and all stakeholders.
  • Good organizational and administration skills; accustomed to using online resources/software for booking camps and lessons.
  • High degree of reliability and flexibility (to reschedule potential rain-outs).

Compensation

  • Dedicated coaching court.
  • Ability to promote lessons, camps and other related events to our membership list. In 2023, there were over 600 club members (including approx. 190 junior members) with a waitlist of over 900+
  • Facilities on-site in which to host camps, lessons and related activities 7 days a week. Courts are available from 7 am until 11 pm daily.
  • Courts will be provided for lessons, camps and related activities based on demands of both general membership as well as lesson, camp attendance.
