Parliamentary Assistant - Adjoint(e) parlementaire

Purpose: To provide administrative and legislative support to the Member of Parliament for Longueuil—Charles-LeMoyne. This is a full-time position (37.5 hours/week), reporting directly to the Director, Office of the Member of Parliament.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Member in her parliamentary functions, including House business, Committee duties and Caucus and association meetings
  • Overseeing the Member’s parliamentary office, including processing and handling all incoming phone calls, email, and postal mail
  • Managing and monitoring the Member’s Ottawa agenda
  • Coordinating the Member’s travel and processing expense claims
  • Coordinating and attending meetings and consultations between the Member and other colleagues, stakeholders and interest groups and carrying out all necessary follow-ups
  • Conducting relevant research and analysis on issues of priority concern and interest to the MP and the constituents of Longueuil—Charles-LeMoyne
  • Tracking the progress of and monitoring legislation (government and private members’ business) and debates with implications for the Member
  • Maintaining effective relations with MPs, Senators and their staff, as well as with constituents, interest groups and other stakeholders
  • Ensuring effective liaison with PMO and the offices of the Government Whip and House Leader
  • Developing and drafting speaking notes and key messaging
  • Liaising with constituency staff to monitor emerging issues and concerns
  • Conducting additional research and assignments as requested by the Member of Parliament and/or Director

Working Conditions: Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; overtime required (will be remunerated in corresponding time off)

Education: Post-secondary degree in political science or a related field

Qualifications: Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience.

Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of parliamentary and legislative processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both official languages
  • Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work well under pressure, prioritizing and managing multiple projects
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Professionalism, discretion and diplomacy
  • Previous experience working for a Member of Parliament or provincial legislator preferred

Annual salary: Commensurate upon experience. Eligibility for annual salary increase based on performance.
