Your work environment at EXP

EXP is recruiting for an Intermediate Building Science Engineer/Associate to join its Building Science - Structural Rehabilitation & Testing Group in our Brampton, ON office. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of technical work related to new construction, assessment, and restoration of concrete structures, including but not limited to the responsibilities listed below.

What a day at EXP has in store for you:
  1. Condition survey and assessment of structural components and waterproofing of parking structures, balcony decks and other concrete elements in existing buildings.
  2. Preparation of specifications and drawings for rehabilitation projects.
  3. Review of submittals, shop drawings, substitution requests and requests for information from the contractor.
  4. Attendance of meetings with the Architects, Clients, Contractors and Trades.
  5. Review of mock-up and standard of installation reviews.
  6. Report writing and review of reports from field reviewers.
  7. Design review related to waterproofing and concrete elements of the architectural drawings and specifications for new construction projects.
  8. Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior staff.
  9. Prepare engineering fee proposals.
  10. Conduct construction contract administration and construction review services during the repairs.
  11. Liaison with Clients, building strong client relationships, and generating new business.
  12. Ensure health and safety policies are adhered to at all sites and report to Manager and Joint Health and Safety Committee Members.
What your experience looks like:
  1. 5-10 years of technical experience in building science and/or structural rehabilitation with a proven ability to manage projects and help facilitate business development.
  2. University degree in a related field of study, such as Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Building Science.
  3. P. Eng. designation in ON is required.
  4. In-depth knowledge of concrete structural elements is a must.
  5. In-depth knowledge of various building envelope systems and assemblies is an asset.
  6. In-depth knowledge of standards and guidelines related to parking structures/balcony systems and assemblies is a must.
  7. Experience in restoration projects is a must.
  8. Experience in new construction projects is an asset.
  9. Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required for site visits.
  10. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with clients and co-workers.
  11. Ability to work effectively in a high-demand and fast-paced environment.
  12. An excellent team builder with the ability to motivate people.
  13. Leadership skills are an asset.
