How does the role impact the organization?

The Senior Financial Planner is an integral member of our Total Wealth Solutions team dedicated to delivering an elevated level of service to support our advisory teams and their client families. This role is ideal for someone looking to further develop and expand their financial planning skills, work with and support all team members in the financial planning and thought leadership functions.

What will your role be responsible for?

  • Prepare modular and comprehensive planning deliverables for RJL clients.
  • Collaborate with RJL’s Total Wealth Solutions complimentary departments (Tax Consulting, Tax Preparation, Insurance Solutions, Corporate Trustee, and Philanthropy), where appropriate, in drafting modular and comprehensive planning deliverables.
  • Oversee the RJL client planning experience from the initial discovery meeting, gathering client data, entering client data, working with the client’s other professional advisors, interpreting planning information and output, and generating and delivering client planning deliverables.
  • Development of thought leadership and presentations on planning topics for RJL advisors and their client families.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian financial planning and its key concepts.
  • U.S. financial planning background is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate proficiently in French is an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of all Canadian investment solution structures and accounts, and their respective income tax and succession law considerations.
  • Exceptional etiquette and client service skills including experience in face-to-face, videoconferencing, and telephone scenarios.
  • Identifying client opportunities and providing potential solutions to client challenges throughout the planning process that align with goals-based planning.
  • Demonstrating sound judgement and collaboration with RJL’s Total Wealth Solutions complimentary departments.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills, including the ability to juggle multiple, competing deadlines in a high-volume and demanding environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Oversee the training and development of junior team members.
  • Exercise tact and the utmost discretion in the handling of client private, confidential information.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • College diploma or University degree with a focus on business and/or finance.
  • Five+ years of practical, client-facing financial planning experience, including Canadian operating, professional and holding corporations, private trusts, and cross-border considerations.
  • Planning for HNW Canadian families ($2-$5M in investable assets/business interests) is an asset.
  • Worked with Conquest Planning or Naviplan software in the last two years.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with a willingness to hone existing skills and learn new applications.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation is required.
  • Life License Qualification Program (LLQP) and/or Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation is an asset.
  • Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) designation is an asset.

Travel:

  • Occasional travel may be required.
