Position Overview:
We are seeking an intermediate Analytics Developer to join the Data & Analytics team. The group is a centralized team that supports corporate data management, analytics, reporting, and development across a multitude of disciplines (geosciences, engineering, production, operations, finance, corporate planning, etc.). We are responsible for building and managing the technical data and tools our business teams leverage for analytics and workflow efficiency. Your role will work to expand Whitecap’s overall analytics capabilities with a focus on maintaining and expanding the enterprise reporting platform, developing analytic and reporting tools, building function-specific data models to solve for operational needs, and expanding self-service data capabilities to the business. The ideal candidate will have energy industry experience in a technical, data-related role, will be comfortable navigating Oil & Gas related data sets, and have a passion and aptitude for data, analytics, and technology.
Key Job Accountabilities:
- Work closely with subject matter experts to gather information, design, develop, and maintain the reports, dashboards, tools, etc. that will support business needs across the organization
- Build and maintain the data models and queries behind the scenes to facilitate report development, application development, data analysis, and future ML/AI opportunities
- Assist in supporting and administering our Tableau Desktop and Server environments
- Contribute to the development and organization of our enterprise data warehouse and assist in maintaining the completeness of our technical data sets
- Develop, test, and deploy iterative data capture and processing solutions through repeatable processes [ex. ETL, scripting, etc.]
- Act as a technical resource when it comes to data availability, Tableau support and training, analytic requests, workflow development, etc.
- Develop and maintain documentation and presentations when appropriate
Primary Qualifications and Skills:
- Post-secondary education in a related field [Engineering, Geology, IT, Business Intelligence, Data Science]
- 5-10 years of energy industry experience in a technical role leveraging data and analytics preferred
- Experience with Oil & Gas operations, concepts, and fundamentals considered to be an asset [ex. financial reporting, drilling and completions, production forecasting, economic evaluation, development optimization, etc.]
- Intermediate to advanced level of experience with visual analytics tools like Tableau, Spotfire, or PowerBI
- Proficient with SQL, structured databases, and ETL processes
- Experience with APIs and/or a scripting language like Python considered to be an asset
- Willingness and aptitude to adapt and learn new technologies and skills
- Ability to thrive in a multi-disciplinary and dynamic environment
- Willingness to ask a lot of questions, fail fast, and iterate to get it right
- Attention to detail when delivering data and insights
- A desire to work with data and build a career in data
