Central Regional Manager at Medavie Employment Overview Position Type: Permanent. Role reports to the Director, Ground Operations and is a senior leadership position responsible for managing staff and systems to meet performance requirements for the ambulance service in the region. Duties and Responsibilities Provide clinical support to ensure optimum customer service and patient care, supervising paramedics as needed. Foster relationships with the Performance and Development department, CDPs, and MOPs, attending meetings and participating in M&M’s. Monitor and manage clinical incidents, coaching supervisors and staff on closure steps for adverse events. Provide backup on ambulances during emergencies and maintain professional paramedic certification. Prioritize customer/patient service and develop a resolution process for issues. Effectively delegate tasks to supervisory teams, setting clear performance expectations and reporting requirements. Encourage supervisors and staff participation and empowerment in delegation. Manage team sensitivity to new or changing company policies, encouraging self‑motivation. Manage regional communications distribution, focusing on supervisor support and mentorship. Conduct supervisor meetings, highlighting employee achievements and fostering proactive interactions. Develop operational performance management, ensuring supervisor/paramedic awareness of contractual obligations. Address service inquiries externally and internally, coordinating investigations and ensuring timely closures. Attend operations divisional and manager meetings, preparing reports for the Support Office. Implement daily, quarterly, and annual performance management with field supervisors and staff. Plan for contingencies and oversee regional EMS disaster management and preparedness. Participate in recruitment and selection of site paramedic staff, coaching staff and collaborating with Human Resources. Orient new employees to company goals and objectives, leading by example in group meetings. Practice supportive communication techniques such as active listening. Improve employee performance through motivation, delegation, decision‑making, and empowerment. Demonstrate superior conflict resolution skills, mediating conflicts between employees and external stakeholders. Develop and support the entire region’s paramedic team, fostering educational and organizational goals. Maintain positive relationships with landlords and leaseholds, ensuring base maintenance. Manage region budgets and fiscal responsibilities, complying with visa policies. Coordinate procurement, equipment distribution with System Support. Maintain relationships with local hospital committees and DHA liaison. Handle special event resource requests and community function planning. Communicate with outside agencies and stakeholders, attending regional EMO planning committees. Participate in public and community meetings with stakeholders and councils when required. Qualifications Minimum five years of experience working as a paramedic. Five years or more in a progressively responsible supervisory position. Approved paramedic training program and ALS provider at ICP or ACP level is an asset. Knowledge and/or expertise in EMS management, information technology, finance, and human resources. Licensed with CPNS to work in Nova Scotia as a paramedic. A valid Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Class 4 driver’s license. Knowledge & Skills Demonstrated supervisory skills: leadership, planning, organization, delegation, empowerment, and motivation. Solid understanding of ambulance industry and business functions (EMS operations, fleet, facility management, HR, finance, inventory control, SSP, CQI). Managerial/supervisory experience and formal business training is an asset. Effective written, oral, and presentation skills. Aptitude for negotiation and dispute resolution, and strong time‑management. Discretion and independent judgment to make autonomous decisions aligned with organizational goals. Physical Requirements Spend periods sitting, standing, walking, crouching, lifting, and carrying light objects. Maintain one position for possible long periods, such as sitting at meetings or at a desk. Read data, input data, prepare reports, use word processors, computers, calculators, and telephone. Use general office equipment (fax, photocopier, printer, personal computer). Exposure to low‑to‑moderate noise levels. Operate a system vehicle under routine and emergency driving conditions.
