Manager, Financial Reporting and Accounting

General Duties
This position will oversee and manage the financial reporting and accounting processes for Regulated Hydro and Energy Marketing entities. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Manager provides leadership, oversight and direction to a financial reporting and accounting team with the goal of ensuring the integrity of financial information is available for timely reporting to the Leadership Team, the Boards of Directors, the Regulator and other external stakeholders. Key duties include oversight of the financial reporting cycle for the external financial statements, note disclosures and related deliverables; monthly management reporting and analysis for the Leadership Team and other stakeholders; management of the audit process and deliverables as well as providing oversight and input to various reports and applications for the Regulator and other stakeholders. Additional duties include managing the short-term financial planning activities for Energy Marketing; assessment of contracts and other activities from a technical accounting perspective as well as overseeing key accounting inputs provided by various shared service functions. Success traits include proven ability and experience in managing an accounting team, the financial reporting and audit process as well as strong technical accounting skills combined with the ability to present information to support decision making and the ability to foster team development.
Qualifications:
- A University Degree supplemented with a professional accounting designation, or a combination of equivalent education and experience;
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years progressively responsible experience in accounting and finance;
- Strong, team based, interpersonal skills to foster effective working relationships with members of the Finance team, operations and other divisions of the Hydro Group of Companies;
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS;
- General knowledge of rate regulation and or experience working with a utility would be an asset;
- Excellent analytical and problem solving ability;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience interfacing with senior business leaders across an organization.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in fast paced, deadline driven environment, while dealing with highly sensitive and confidential information;
- Proficiency in use of computer applications.
- Ability to research, analyze and interpret information from a variety of sources and subject areas, with a particular emphasis on accounting guidelines.
