Our client, Beacon Accounting, a growing accounting firm located in St. John's, NL, is hiring for a Staff Accountant.

The Staff Accountant will prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, conduct risk assessments, and assist with budget management, among other duties. To be successful in this role, you are highly analytical, motivated, and enjoy working in a fast-paced and continuously changing environment.

The Role:
  1. Provide accounting services to small or large corporations in various areas of finance.
  2. Prepare files and financial statements (NTR, Review and Audit engagements).
  3. Utilize financial records to properly fill out clients' corporate tax returns (T2).
  4. Prepare T1s and when necessary, prepare T3, T4, T5 and GST/HST returns.
  5. Maintenance and review of Client financial records.
  6. Complete audits of accounts for errors, misinformation, fraud, and overspending.
  7. Maintain familiarity with tax laws concerning clients' professions or businesses.
  8. Communicate with clients and discuss clients' financial records with government auditors or Revenue Service officials, while also handling Canada Revenue Agency issues as they occur.
  9. Support the answering of phones, mail distribution and other administrative duties.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent.
  2. Minimum 1-3 years of relevant work experience in public accounting.
  3. Experience preparing T1s, T2s, and year-end working paper files (NTR, Review and Audit engagements).
  4. Experience working with Sage, QuickBooks, CaseWare, Jazzit, and Profile.
  5. CPA designation considered an asset.
  6. Proficient with software packages such as MS Office (Excel and Word).
  7. Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  8. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  9. Ability to think critically, make decisions and use an analytical approach to resolve problems.
