Description

Hi there, we’re Article. Since 2013, we have been reinventing the furniture industry one sofa at a time, it’s not easy — it requires solving challenging, meaningful problems. This is where you come in, as an Art Director (3-month contractor role), you'll work with photography, video, and copy to create visual assets for product-specific marketing campaigns that align with Article’s brand positioning.

*PLEASE NOTE: This role is only available to candidates local to the Greater Vancouver area, as you will need to be present in the office at least 3 days per week.

Why We Need You:

The Art Director plays a leading role in Brand Creative delivery - supporting our Sales & Marketing Programs. This contract role (3 months) will specifically focus on the Art Direction of any photo and video productions planned during this period, and leading the creation of required digital marketing channel deliverables using custom and existing image and video assets.

You can expect to hit the ground running from Day 1. The role will be fast-paced - you’ll be coming in and starting work very quickly. You'll need the confidence and experience to know what needs to be done.

About the Creative team:

The creative team is responsible for creating marketing and sales assets that best represent our brand positioning in the furniture market. These product-focused assets are used across our marketing channels, predominantly on our website and in emails.

We are a hybrid team - you'll be in the office 3 days per week and then as needed when product shoots are scheduled.


What You’ll Do:

Excellence in Art Direction and Design:

  • Ensure that marketing and sales assets are presented in consistent and distinctive ways in alignment with our Brand Positioning
  • Ensure that marketing and sales assets are presented following current and relevant trends in digital marketing and retail eCommerce industry best practices
  • Demonstrate understanding of our brand position relative to our industry competitors
  • Adhere to Article’s Brand Identity Guidelines, and follow channel best practices
  • Always strive to achieve a high level of creative exploration and innovation, while remaining on-brand
  • Work in collaborative partnership with the Copy Manager from concept through execution
  • Present creative project work for review and approval to creative leadership, project owners (internal clients), and stakeholders as necessary. Communicate concepts, designs, and ideas succinctly, with a clear narrative that is tailored to the audience.
  • Report the progress of projects at any stage of their conception, creation, and execution
  • Anticipate problems that may impede a project from completing on time, and investigate and implement solutions to mitigate risks
  • In-office at least three days per week (and additional days as required)

Brand Creative Delivery of Sales & Marketing Programs:

  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of our Sales & Marketing business objectives and programs
  • Oversee the generation of photo and video assets to support our product marketing program:
    • Provide on-set art direction during productions (to all team members including Photographer, Videographer, Studio Stylist, etc.)
    • Provide overarching art direction in the pre-production planning phase (including—where necessary—direction for location selection; hair & makeup; wardrobe; talent casting; etc.)
    • Collaborate with Studio Stylist to develop set design/layout and styling
    • Complete administrative tasks pertaining to the creative work (e.g. updating lists of products being promoted, liaising with Marketing Managers to ensure program requirements are met)
  • Oversee and lead (in collaboration with the Copy Manager) creative team ICs in the development and execution of marketing campaigns (required channel deliverables):
    • Workshop and lead the structuring and design of weekly emails and eComm deliverables according to the outline creative content plan (which provides the product to be featured, and the intent of each communication)
    • Ensure that these deliverables meet the overarching themes of the content plan
    • Provide support and regular WIP reviews of work on these deliverables as it’s developed, and troubleshoot issues as they arise
    • Ensure work is completed and delivered on schedule for brief-owner review, and final file delivery milestones

Who You Are:
  • 2+ years experience working on an in-house creative team as an Art Director
  • Previous experience in “physical” consumer brand product marketing is a must-have (this could be in apparel, household appliances, etc…)
  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • Completion of criminal background check

As a contractor at Article:
  • We pay our contractors’ invoices net 30
  • We’ll provide you with a laptop (if required) and all required software
  • You'll have a dedicated desk in our office
  • The Article HQ is a converted warehouse, with an open accessible layout, where you can work from an Article sofa, collaboration spaces, or a private meeting room
  • Well-stocked kitchens filled with snacks, premium coffees, and teas (and ALL the milks)
  • Onsite fitness equipment, change rooms with showers (towel service), and indoor secure bike storage
  • A dog-friendly office. If you have a well-behaved, well-socialized pup, they’re welcome too

The expected hourly rate is $80-$85/hour.
