Designate Power Plant Chief

Position Summary

Responsible for assisting the Chief Operating Engineer with coordinating Power Plant Operations and Maintenance activities to meet production/plant operations requirements along with division quality, safety, and continuous improvement objectives.

Key Responsibilities

- Operations:

  1. Assist the Chief Engineer in administering programs involving electrical, mechanical, general construction, and repair and maintenance of existing facilities and equipment.
  2. Implement a complete preventive management system.
  3. Ensure effective cost management for site Power plant and budget development.
  4. Key contributor for the natural gas procurement team.
  5. Contracts negotiation with vendors and governing bodies.
  6. Assign and verify completion of routine maintenance/PM and operation of all mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C systems.
  7. Assist with the administration of inventory control programs and systems.
  8. Implement strategies to reduce energy consumption and minimize the carbon footprint.

- Quality & Safety:

  1. Create, foster and maintain a proactive safety culture.
  2. Ensure compliance of Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  3. Support OHAS 18001 Safety Management Programs.
  4. Develop and implement site-wide equipment standards for optimal efficiency.
  5. Ensure all employees are fully trained per ISO guidelines.
  6. Conduct regular inspections of operating mechanical, electrical, and equipment systems.
  7. Provide for quality assurance by creating and implementing preventive maintenance programs.

- Team Management:

  1. Coach employees by clarifying role requirements and discussing progress.
  2. Manage department work schedules, payroll, and job administration.
  3. Responsible for all safety-related permits.
  4. Assign and monitor maintenance projects for employees.

- Project Management:

  1. Deliver and manage budgets of CAPEX/OPEX projects.
  2. Lead change initiatives to deliver business results.
  3. Assist in required projects and programs to ensure that the Department achieves its annual goals.

Competencies

  1. 1st class Power Engineer certificate from the TSSA.
  2. 5+ years of related work experience.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  5. Proficient in the use of computer systems.

Required Skills & Abilities

  1. Software – JD Edwards, Kronos, MS Office, Rockwell DCS Controls.
  2. Awareness of relevant codes and regulatory requirements.
  3. Ability to make things happen, customer focus, team building.

Education

  1. Required: Trade Certificate: First Class Operating Engineer certificate of qualification.
  2. Preferred: College Diploma, Stationary/Power Engineering.
