About the Role

The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for building a safety culture and strong engagement on site, developing and implementing safety programs in partnership site leadership, facilitating safety training, and leading a team of HSE professionals.

The Health and Safety Manager reports directly to the Sr. Manager, National Health & Safety and indirectly to the Site Director. The Health and Safety Manager oversees a team of Health and Safety Specialist(s), Coordinator(s) and administrators; and works directly with Production Supervisors and Managers to ensure workplace safety is a top priority.

Must be willing to commute to Mississauga, Brampton, and Etobicoke on a regular basis.

What you will be doing:
  1. Build a strong safety-first culture through employee engagement, strong health and safety management programs, and training
  2. Lead health and safety audits, routine site checks, and closing of compliance gaps to establish high safety standards and compliance with HelloFresh and OHS requirements
  3. Partner with site management to proactively identify, assess, analyze, and mitigate job hazards; and establish high effectiveness of controls and processes to eliminate safety risks
  4. Engage, motivate, and train employees on safety roles and responsibilities, accountabilities, and processes to maintain a safe workplace
  5. Oversee incident investigations, reporting, and management
  6. Lead safety reporting; ensure high transparency and visibility to safety metrics and alerts on site
  7. Oversee onboarding and on-the-job safety training programs for employees and first aids
  8. Establish an effective Joint Health and Safety committee
  9. Monitor existing and incoming relevant legislation and regulations to ensure the site meets requirements and that health and safety management programs are up to date
  10. Work in compliance with OH&S acts and regulations
  11. Use personal protective and safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer and report workplace hazards and dangers to the supervisor or employer
  12. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
At a minimum, you have:

Completed post-secondary in Health and Safety, or related field or equivalent work experience

5+ years of work experience required in Health and Safety

Demonstrated experience in providing high-quality customer experience, building a safety culture, communicating to get team member buy-in

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to perform administrative tasks with a high degree of accuracy

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), including active listening and proofreading

Ability to perform at a high level in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment

Ability to demonstrate good, sound judgment

Availability to work weekend schedules and in temperature-controlled (it’s food, so it’s cold) facilities

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite (Calendar, Gmail, Docs, Sheets), and video conferencing (Hangouts Meet)
