JOB SUMMARY

As a community leader, the Executive Director is a source of strength and inspiration to the Indigenous community and demonstrates the cultural qualities, values, and competencies necessary for this complex and demanding role. The Executive Director understands the strengths and needs of urban Indigenous peoples to create a culturally safe and welcoming environment for community members, partners, and staff. The Executive Director possesses a genuine commitment to healing, reconciliation, and revitalization to create better outcomes for Indigenous peoples in our community.
The Executive Director, under the supervision of the ONFC Board of Directors is responsible for the overall operations of the organization, the provision of programs and services, supervision of all management, staff, contract personnel, contractors, special projects and management of all ONFC assets and office locations.
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the organization's achievement of its mission and organizational objectives. The Executive Director will be expected to implement strategic plans and ensure the excellence, integrity and accountability of our core initiatives in services. Other key responsibilities include securing funding, program development and administration, allowing for the optimal use of organizational finances, staff and resources. This individual will also provide financial leadership by managing budgets and monitoring long-term strategic fiscal plans.

B. WORK EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- Completion of bachelor’s degree in relevant field, work experience and/or industry courses in Business Administration, Finance or another relevant discipline.
- Three to five years of coordination and supervisory experience.
- Three to five years’ experience in working in not for profit organizations.
- Experience working with Indigenous peoples and an understanding of Indigenous culture and well-being.
- Experience in managing budgets in excess of $1 Million.
- Proven successful experience in proposal writing.
- Human Resources experience required.
- Frequent use of dynamic group facilitation skills is necessary.
C. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides effective strategic leadership and day-to-day management of ONFC’s staff, programs, finances, systems and operational policies and practices.
- Leads in the development of initiatives and funding opportunities to support ONFC’s long-term growth and sustainability.
- Works with the Board of Directors and community to establish dynamic goals, strategies and vision for future.
- Identifies and implements annual organizational goals along with the Board of Directors.
- Prepares and implements of annual strategic plan along with the Board of Directors.
- Administers overall operations, employment, finance and services.
- Oversees development of annual departmental work plans and budgets.
- Identifies new business or programming opportunities through effective proposal writing.
- Develops and submits plans and reports as required by the Board of Directors and the provincial and federal governments as well as the OFIFC.
- Makes effective and efficient organizational decisions.
- Ensures the completion of all final project reports and budget.
- Meets regularly with management and staff to ensure compliance with goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
- Oversees all managers and staff for the day to day operation of the organization.
- Participates in the hiring process of new employees.
- Establishes and maintains positive partnerships / relationships with other organizations, the private sector, and government agencies.
- Contributes to the development of new or revised policies.
- Develops procedures to support policies.
- Attends conferences, workshops and training as directed by the Board of Directors or on behalf of the Board of Directors.
- Oversees all property management, equipment and supplies.
- Ensures organizational and legislative compliance.
- Fundraises with the focus of becoming self-sufficient.
- Attends and ensures the coordination of monthly Board of Directors meetings.
- Works closely with Board of Directors’ committees and full Board of Directors.
- Attends and ensures the coordination of yearly Annual General Meeting.
- Enables the ONFC to respond effectively and efficiently to changing community, program, and service needs.
- Creates a motivational work environment to enhance employee satisfaction and productivity.
- Conducts staff meetings to disseminate pertinent information.
- Evaluates programs, services and operational performance to address gaps and provide recommendations to the Board of Directors.
- Conducts staff evaluations.
- Develops and implements effective communications strategy including public relations, IT, and social media for the ONFC.
- Actively participates on Rideau Hub Board.
D. REPORTING
- Reports on a regular basis to the Board of Directors.
- Ensures proper reporting to funders.
- Meets with Board Executives as necessary to review and meet strategic plan objectives.
E. BOARD RELATIONSHIP AND COLLABORATION
- Develops effective communications and prepares recommendations and reports, to enable the Board of Directors to make decisions and discharge their fiduciary duties.
- Ensures the Board is briefed on major issues and trends that could impact the organization’s strategic direction and operational sustainability.
- Creates a supportive and positive environment that attracts and motivates qualified and competent Board Members to engage in ONFC’s governance role.
F. FINANCIAL AND REGULATORY INTEGRITY
- Responsible for the management of the ONFC’s financial systems and ensures adherence to sound financial practices.
- Works with auditors and the Board’s Finance Committee, prepares the annual budget for Board approval and controls the annual operating plans.
- Oversees the financial operations plan and ensures the results of the annual budget are achieved.
- Ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial accounting and complies with all government and non-government funding requirements.
- Communicates in an efficient and timely manner to the Board of emerging financial issues that could impact the fiscal health of the organization.
- Provides leadership in contract negotiations/ contract management.
- Oversees compliance with all legal, regulatory and professional requirements of the ONFC.
- Ensures the provision of adequate insurance for directors’ liability, facility and properties, staff coverage and other, as required.
- Develops and maintains systems for strategic and operational risk management.
- Manages and maintains ONFC compliance with all legislation relevant to the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, 2010, SO 2010, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, R.S.O. 1990, and the Employment Standards Act, 2000.
G. WORK ENVIRONMENT

- Work regular business hours with some overtime when required.
- Evening and weekend work when necessary.
- Occasional work-related travel is required within Canada.
