The Contracts Consultant will develop new, complex policy wording to accurately reflect new products, changes in products or benefits, changes in legislation or new legislation, change in administration or adjudication practices. This role is wholly responsible for other related documentation to ensure compliance with company policies, capturing business needs and identifying risks or areas of concern. As a Contracts Specialist, they provide advice, guidance and support both one-on-one with Business Units, and as a subject matter expert (SME) on projects and strategic initiatives within Group Benefits. With the support of the Contracts Manager, the Contracts Specialist will work closely with internal departments (Legal, Risk, Finance, Taxation, Information Security) to enhance the level of rigor in the Contract Review Process.

How you will create impact:
  • Develop new, complex policy wording to accurately reflect new products, change in products or benefits, change in legislation or new legislation, change in admin or adjudication practices.
  • Establish schedule to update policy and booklet wording on a regular basis resulting in competitive policy and booklet that is easy to write and defend.
  • Project SME/ Consultant to all Group Benefits strategic and operation initiatives, ie) determine key priorities and lead implementations, awareness of all corporate and department impacts, contribute to discussion papers ie) involving key partners, such as Underwriting, legal, translation, marcomm etc.
  • Proactively monitor and research external activities to identify potential legal/regulatory impacts, emerging issues which could impact products/profitability, emerging industry trends, marketplace and claims issues, product and government bulletins and advises impacted stakeholders
  • Provides leadership and subject matter expertise in the interpretation of legislative and regulatory changes, including how they will impact current and future Group contracts/ products/services offered.
  • Execute training/ seminars with all Group Benefit department staff to further their knowledge on contract wording, interpretation, legal requirements, legislation and Canadian life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) guidelines.
  • Mentoring and provide guidance to Contract Department Staff on technical issues; maintain team skills matrix and monitoring staff learning and development; to observe and provide feedback to advance team members’ learning/knowledge.
  • Audit complex documents of Contract Analysts for understanding and accuracy in contract construction.Maintain Group Contract audit framework, executions, and reporting.
