YMCA of Southwestern Ontario was founded in 1856 and has over 200 locations from Goderich to Point Pelee, and Windsor to Woodstock. We are one of the largest not-for-profit providers of licensed child care in Canada and have over 100 school age programs across our regions. We also offer settlement services to newcomers, employment programs, mental health support, and youth programs. YMCA of Southwestern Ontario operates two overnight camps, one in Point Pelee National Park, and one on Beausoleil Island in Muskoka. We also have 15 Health & Fitness branches across Southwestern Ontario.

Position/Term: Community Resource Houses Facilitator, 4 Month Contract with possibility of extension

Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary: $17.20 hour

Qualifications & Experience:

  1. Secondary education, in addition to the current training in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth, Social Services, or Recreation and Leisure are considered an asset
  2. Experience working in a community drop-in Centre is an asset; knowledge of sports and recreation, community programs and service clubs preferred
  3. Excellent problem-solving skills; interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong working relationships with participants and community agencies
  4. Outgoing, inclusive and welcoming in nature; resourceful, flexible, motivated and energetic
  5. Valid class “G” driver’s license and access to a vehicle for work activities, is preferred.
  6. WHMIS; Basic health and safety worker awareness certification; child abuse prevention certification (will be provided)
  7. Current and acceptable Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Position Screen is a condition of employment for all staff and volunteers
  8. Current First Aid & CPR Level C
  9. It is a YMCA of Southwestern Ontario requirement that all employees and volunteers be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Compensation/Benefits:

  1. Pay will commensurate with experience

  4. Vacation entitlement in accordance with the employment standards regulations
  5. May be entitled to up to 12 paid personal days – applicable with position and contract length

Responsibilities:

  1. Adhere to YMCA of Southwestern Ontario policy and procedures
  2. Act as a YMCA ambassador, demonstrating YMCA core values in your daily work
  3. Create and maintain positive, open working relationships with youth and families
  4. Be accessible to parents to answer questions and respond to concerns
  5. Be sensitive to individual differences and needs
  6. Provide a warm, safe and caring environment
  7. Utilize age-appropriate child coaching and mentoring techniques
  8. Oversee all snack time activities
  9. Coach and provide leadership to support staff and volunteers
  10. Maintain accurate records, files and forms
  11. Model appropriate behaviours toward staff, volunteers and members
  12. Continuous practice of clean culture
  13. Always present a professional appearance
  14. Ensure compliance with the policies and procedures of the YMCA
  15. Strive to stay informed and up to date on all YMCA programs and services
  16. Solve participant concerns in a customer-oriented manner
  17. Communicate with Supervisor problems or concerns in a timely manner
  18. Maintain the strict confidentiality and discretion on all private matters
  19. Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and applicable industry standards
  20. Actively support the Association’s Philanthropic efforts
  21. Maintain qualifications as required by this position
  22. Participate in all staff meetings and training
