We manufacture ocean sensing solutions – sensors, instrumentation, and deployment systems – for business and government customers on all seven continents. As a hi-tech business, our technical team includes experts and engineers with experience in the acoustic, mechanical, electrical, software, and embedded software domains. We operate from locations at either end of Canada: Halifax (Dartmouth) on the Atlantic Coast, and Victoria on the Pacific Coast.
This position is based in Halifax (Dartmouth), NS.
Mission of this role is: "Build it and better it": Assembly of Deployment (MVP) systems with ongoing improvement.
Accountabilities
- Quality Driven: Constantly strive to improve quality, and ensure production records are accurate. Achieve 90% build yields or better.
- Build Efficiency: Improve throughput without compromising on quality. Complete all jobs for the week more than 95% of the time; identify any schedule issues in advance.
- Culture and Change: Promotes AML's culture and supports team members. Embraces change with excitement and passion.
- Safety Ownership: Highly aware of health and safety hazards. Proactively identify health and safety concerns and assist with resolution. Hold yourself and others accountable for adhering to safe work practices.
- Process Improvement: Identifies and helps implement at least two opportunities for improvement each quarter.
- Cross Training: Learn at least one new product/process per quarter or trains another team member on at least one new product/process.
Key Competencies
- Hydraulics Understanding: Able to interpret a hydraulic schematic. Can identify parts and their basic function.
- Mechanical Assembly: A gift for assembly of prefabricated parts following mechanical assembly drawings. Experienced with manual and power tools.
- Electrical Assembly: Competent in soldering, wire splicing, wire routing and termination.
- Meticulous / Detail Oriented: High level of manual dexterity with an aptitude for meticulous, detail oriented assembly. Getting it right the first time with minimal re-work.
- Communication Skills: Can communicate effectively in a clear, concise, and professional manner; both written and verbal. Responsive to the needs of internal and external customers.
- Product Knowledge: Able to learn about product functionality and various device measurement theories.
- Troubleshooting Skills: Can troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems. Ability to distinguish symptoms from root cause.
