The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expertise to the core team, project teams and stakeholders of work associated with capital and operational requirements to our SCADA and Energy Management Systems.
Key elements of this role include:
- Provide appropriate and timely technical advice and direction on changes required to these systems and processes to adapt to new or emerging technologies or changing regulatory requirements (NPCC, NERC).
- Maintain and support the SCADA system functionality and availability by carrying out proper procedures and troubleshooting guides.
- Participate in SCADA upgrades projects, conduct FAT/SAT testing and work closely with vendors to address all SCADA requirements.
- Maintain the day to day Operational changes in the SCADA system such as Displays, SCADA DB, FEP DB, ICCP, PI historian changes.
- Work and coordinate with field to troubleshoot and commission new substations, RTUs, SCADA points and do proper troubleshooting when needed.
- Maintain the SCADA NERC CIP compliance activities and participate in NPCC Audits when required.
- Play a key role in SCADA implementation & commissioning of new NSpower Decarbonatization projects such as Grid battery power storage systems, Green hydrogen, new windfarms and solar systems.
- Maintain the SCADA custom calculations by adding or changing the existing Calcs and codes to reflect the latest system conditions.
- Participate in the rotational on call to maintain 24/7 system support.
You will be responsible for personal safety, that of co-workers, and those under your direction by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environment management system processes and initiatives.
These skills will make you successful:
- You are a graduate with a Bachelor´s degree in Engineering with related working experience of T&D Power Systems and a full member (or eligible for membership) in Engineers Nova Scotia.
- At least 2 – 5 years of experience in Power Utility SCADA system.
- Experience with OSI Monarch SCADA systems.
- Good knowledge in C programming or equivalent language.
- Good knowledge of SCADA protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, Telegear.
- Linux/Red Hat experience would be considered a valuable asset.
- You possess fully developed technical knowledge in electric utility engineering disciplines. You have a detailed understanding of all components and interactions of SCADA and EMS and core IT infrastructure.
- You work in an operating environment. You possess strong oral and written communication skills, a strong customer service ethic, good interpersonal skills and are able to function effectively in a team environment.
- You are a self-starter with proven organizational and analytical skills. You possess strong computer skills. You must demonstrate your commitment to personal development.
- You must be available for after hour consultation and emergency power restoration work.
You must possess a valid driver´s license.
