Job Description
Affirm’s Compliance team designs and implements a compliance program to proactively adhere to regulatory requirements while also identifying and addressing potential regulatory issues that may arise. Compliance program activities include advisory, guidance & training, independent testing & monitoring, reporting, escalation and oversight. A second line of defense, compliance proactively partners with the business to support new products, markets, and initiatives, change management, issue identification and remediation plans, assessment and monitoring of third parties, and provides trends and data to enable informed decision making, strengthen controls or provide for better treatment of consumers.
We are seeking a Compliance Director, Canada, to lead and support the company’s Canada Compliance Program, compliance advisory and risk identification within our commercial, marketing, credit organizations, servicing operations, and supporting the implementation of new products and strategic initiatives. In growing the company’s markets and products, Compliance plays a fundamental role by not only executing on key deliverables but also providing subject matter expertise related to regulatory requirements. In this capacity, the Compliance Director will be responsible for working with counsel in identifying and assessing risk within applicable requirements, providing guidance to mitigate risk, and supporting the development and maintenance of the Compliance Management Program. Based in Canada, the role will report to the Senior Director, International Compliance, and will work cross-functionally with other teams.

What You’ll Do
- You will work closely with internal partners (Compliance, Product, Legal, Engineering, etc.) to support the compliance requirements and end-to-end implementation of new markets, new products, regulatory change management, and strategic initiatives, as the compliance subject matter expert.
- Maturing and maintaining an effective compliance culture across Canada to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory rules.
- Track regulatory proposals and final rules to understand new risks, and communicate them to appropriate parties through the company.
- Maintain and periodically update compliance risk registers and risk assessments as a foundation of the Canada Regulatory Compliance Program.
- Maintain a monitoring program to determine whether risk is sufficiently managed.
- Communicate the results of monitoring and reporting activities completed to internal partners and executives.
- Coordinate responses to regulatory supervision, audits, and actions taken to ensure deficiencies are corrected in a timely fashion.
- Ensure that compliance and the business have in place, and maintain, up-to-date policies and procedures.
- Track compliance issues through completion of corrective action, including validation testing.
- Develop and implement a framework for regulatory compliance training and ensure that all staff receive appropriate training.
- Advise the business on appropriate response to consumer complaints, and analyze trends and root causes of such complaints.
- Ensure the oversight of third-party service providers identifies and addresses potential compliance risks.
- Review and monitor Affirm and merchant marketing throughout Canada.
- 10+ years of professional experience in Compliance, Risk, Audit, or Bank Regulatory (experience at a Big 4 professional services firm or a financial services or technology company is considered an asset).
- A proven understanding of current applicable regulatory requirements and environment in Canada and within each Province.
- Proven ability to remain up to date on the evolution of Canada’s regulatory environment.
- The ability to independently analyze complex issues and identify suitable solutions.
- Experience collaborating and building positive relationships across a multinational organization [headquartered in the US], thoughtfully enforcing policies and Compliance Program, and raising issues to executive management.
- Ability to influence, engage, and delegate across a matrixed organization.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Excellent organizational and relationship management skills.
- Experience working with GRC tools.
- Demonstrated experience as a key contributing member of a high performing team.
- Inquisitive and proactive in proposing creative and effective solutions.
- Strong project management, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Base Pay Grade - S
Equity Pay Grade - 7
Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range. Affirm focuses on providing a simple and transparent pay structure which is based on a variety of factors, including location, experience and job-related skills.
Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents). In addition, the employees may be eligible for equity rewards offered by Affirm Holdings, Inc. (parent company).
Base pay range per year: CAD$179,000 - CAD$259,000
