Ovation Underwriting Specialist

We have an excellent career opportunity with our Ovation Underwriting team, located at our head office in Markham. A critical objective of this role will be providing insight, guidance, and approval for team underwriting referrals.
Reporting to the Senior National Service Manager, as the Ovation HNW Underwriting Specialist, you are responsible for providing ongoing coaching and feedback for new and existing employees and maintaining a consistent availability for their referral requests. You will drive the First Point Resolution mindset across all aspects of the referral and underwriting process. You will be responsible for tracking and identifying trends in referrals and file inquiries, and work with the Development & Operational Lead to build out additional training and support documents. You will be responsible for delivering the trend reports monthly, including recommendations for learning and development of our people. You will be responsible for completing monthly quality spot checks and recording results in compliance with our Risk & Control processes. Individual progress reports will be provided to the designated FLM monthly. In addition, you will be responsible for back up support for the Development & Operational Lead in the onboarding of our new team members.
You will also collaborate with Corporate Underwriting and the Development & Operational Lead to build job aids/support documents as the need arises and assist with monthly and bi-weekly calibration sessions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an encouraging attitude and will collaborate with Leadership, Underwriters, the Product Manager, and other Partners. The Ovation HNW Underwriting Specialist will also be assisting with ad-hoc projects as required to support the business and the team.

What you’ll do:
Train, coach, and mentor team members on an ongoing basis
Work in partnership with Development & Operational Lead to design and develop role specific training unique to Ovation and HNW
Capture and analyze referral trends, make, and implement recommendations to improve the effectiveness of the program
Complete monthly Quality Assurance spot checks for calls and offline work, and provide reports to the Leadership team
Work with FLM’s, Audit Team and other Stakeholders to identify and address gaps in process and knowledge. Make and implement recommendations for improvement
Subject Matter Expert for HNW and able to resolve technical and complex underwriting issues using Broker Portal, including the use of The General to solve system related issues in collaboration with The General Team.
Work flexibly as part of a Leadership Team and step in to back up the Development & Operational Lead when required
Responsible and are expected to continuously update soft skills through identified e-learn courses and product/industry knowledge through CIP or other related industry accreditations.
What you’ll bring:
10+ years’ experience in insurance and min 5+ years in the High-Net-Worth space
Collaborative and able to draw upon the collective strengths of others
Ability to make good decisions, use independent judgement, establish priorities and work effectively on multiple communications concurrently
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to identify gaps in skills and trends using data-based applications
Ability to plan, multi-task and manage time proactively is crucial
Able to motivate, inspire and develop others
Able to work with a high degree of autonomy, and very little supervision
