Reporting to the Project Manager, the Radiation Protection Program Manager (RPP Manager) is responsible for the radiation protection program. This involves planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating radiation protection program activities, determining goals, objectives, and priorities, and evaluating the effectiveness of the radiation protection program. The RPP Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the project radiation protection program and deliver effective oversight to field implementation of CNSC and client-compliant RP program elements.

This position is located in Port Hope.

What you'll be working on
  • Act as the Radiation Protection Program “owner”
  • Identifying and solving complex radiological protection problems.
  • Develop new concepts, processes, and practices to cost-effectively meet the RP program, project delivery, and delivery partners’ business requirements.
  • Providing expert health physics and radiological protection advice and guidance to senior, line and facility management and external clients.
  • Preparing complex reports on technical subjects. Keeping informed of the latest technological developments and RP practices in the field.
  • Providing technical review of RP program, procedures and instructions for technical accuracy, adequacy, and compliance with RP program requirements.
  • Overview of the interpretation and application of the RP program requirements.
  • Prepare and revise radiation protection requirements, manuals, and procedures.
  • Identify important information and convey it effectively in oral and written format to organizational members, industry colleagues, project partners and customers that positively impact the organization's success.
  • Communicate an understanding of others' needs. Identify, capture, and share information important to individual, team, project, or organizational performance.
  • Motivating and guiding the health physicists in the group.
  • Working collaboratively in a team environment or influencing others to work together effectively to achieve shared goals.
  • Promoting commitment to a team, task, or shared goal; allowing the group to take responsibility for its goals.
  • Supervising operational Health Physicists / Radiation Protection Specialists engaged in the project.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What we are looking for
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in sciences, engineering, or health physics from an accredited educational institution.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the nuclear industry, or relevant decommissioning/remediation projects, conducting operational health physics acting in an oversight capacity.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in providing radiation protection support.
  • Excellent technical communication skills, including technical writing and document preparation/review.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; effective in a team environment.
  • Capable of understanding and appropriately applying prescribed safety and technical procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge and experience in applying nuclear regulatory documents, codes and standards, safety culture, concepts, and philosophies to assigned tasks.
  • Experience and knowledge of RP instrument setup, use, and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding radiation dose assessment for external and internal radiation hazards, emergency response to radiological upset conditions, shielding calculations and airborne contamination monitoring and transportation of dangerous goods, class 7.
  • Experience with activity assessments for transport or dose reporting, ALARA planning and review.
  • Experience with work planning, pre-and post-job briefs and procedural document review, revision, approval.
