Duties & Responsibilities:

Reporting

  • Responsible for the preparation and analysis of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting
  • Assist with preparing comprehensive financial reports and presentations for the owners and other stakeholders to support informed decision-making
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets and financial forecasts
  • Calculate variances from the budget and prior year and report significant issues to management
  • Assist with accounting and reporting for new production facility construction and operations
  • Assist with assessment of franchisee financial performance
  • Monitor franchisee compliance with financial standards and reporting requirements
  • Work closely with other departments including Operations and HR to gather necessary information and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to analyze financial data and provide insights to support strategic decision-making
  • Develop and monitor key financial metrics and performance indicators to track the company's financial condition and operational efficiency
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and analysis as needed

Accounting

  • Responsible for review and oversight of full cycle accounting for the group of companies which includes restaurant operations, franchising, real estate, and wholesale operations
  • Responsible for month end process including oversight of franchise monthly reports; gift card sales; monthly royalty and marketing payments
  • Development and implementation standardized procedures for intercompany transactions to streamline processes
  • Responsible for tracking lease details and payments 
  • Responsible for HST and payroll tax remittances and compliances
  • Assist with financings, insurance renewals, funding applications
  • Assist with production costing processes to ensure accurate and effective cost management across the organization
  • Assist in developing costing models and reports to support pricing decisions and profitability analysis for production operation
  • Liaise with operations to implement cost control measures to optimize food and labor costs at corporate locations
  • Analyze and manage inventory levels, procurement costs, and vendor expenses
  • Develop and monitor costing models to support menu pricing and profitability analysis
  • Assistance with cash flow management

Leadership

  • Assist with developing the finance team, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment within the finance department
  • Responsible for coordination with external auditors and year end statement review process

System and Processes

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in financial reporting and implement changes to enhance automation, efficiency and accuracy
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting to ensure the integrity of financial information as well as segregation of duties
  • Assistance with assessment of systems and integrations of new systems
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial software and tools
  • Assist with banking functionality and ensuring streamlined processes
  • Contribute to special projects and initiatives

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 3-4+ years related experience in financial reporting, with a post-secondary education in Accounting or Finance and/or equivalent combination of education and experience (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA designation considered an asset)
  • Proficient in Sage or another accounting software and Excel considered a strong asset
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Friendly and energetic team player with a positive attitude
  • Strong communication skills – verbal and written
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality
  • Strong time-management and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
