Hutton Safety Group (HSG) is a health and safety management consulting firm headquartered in Calgary, AB that is doing safety differently. HSG acts as the in house, out of house health and safety department for 45+ companies spanning a range of industries with operations across North America. We leverage technology to deliver effective and efficient HSE and transportation management systems that engage all levels within our clients’ organizations, ultimately fostering a culture focused on safety and data driven decision making.

Position Summary:
We are a rapidly growing business and are currently adding to our team This role will work with our team from our Calgary office and the ideal candidate will have a combination of education and experience, with a solution focused approach to health and safety management. They will bring a wealth of HSE knowledge and understanding of business processes to help clients proactively address their HSE risks and challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all client programs are meeting legislation and COR/SECOR compliance.
  • Ensure all client programs are meeting NSC compliance.
  • Develop, update and review: HSE Manuals, Transportation Manuals, formal hazard assessments, policies, procedures, etc.
  • Promote HSE within our clients’ organizations with a goal of continuous improvement of HSE culture.
  • Coach, mentor and supervise HSE coordinators and administrators within HSG and nested at clients.
  • Assist with pre-project planning and execution for client major projects including developing project-specific HSE plans, project hazard assessments, security management plans, environmental management plans, etc.
  • Support project operations in maintaining compliance to the HSE systems.
  • Proactive communication with clients to ensure their understanding of work progress.
  • Conduct worksite inspections, facility assessments, job observations, focused audits, etc.
  • Perform Internal & External COR and SECOR Audits.
  • Conduct HAZOPs, Risk Assessments, etc. for new products, processes, equipment, etc.
  • Conduct Physical Demand’s Analysis.
  • Oversight of Emergency Management Systems and Processes.
  • Conduct Incident Investigations remotely and/or on-site for clients.
  • Develop and Implement Training and Orientation Programs.
  • Facilitate and conduct Training for clients.
  • Coordinate and facilitate monthly safety meetings, joint health and safety committee meetings, etc. both on-site and virtually.
  • Collaborate with the technical solutions team to provide HSE expertise for the tools being built.
  • Manage client relationships to ensure effective communication and HSE workflows and processes.
  • Week On, Week Off management of the Emergency, Incident and Advisor Hotline Phone – this is a shared responsibility amongst the Advisor team to ensure no one is on call 24/7/365 as with most senior HSE roles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Expectations:

  • Projects are managed in Asana (digital task management program) in a transparent and organized manner. Asana tasks are updated at minimum EOD each day.
  • Clients have a five-star experience when interacting with you and the company.
  • All interactions are screened and handled appropriately, reaching out to the Operations Manager as needed for decision-making.
  • All inquiries on Asana and Email are answered by EOD each day. We value and prioritize timely communication both internally and externally.
  • Must be able to accommodate client and site meeting times (both early and late) – variable throughout the month depending on client schedules.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the month for client meetings, site inspections, facility assessments, audits, etc. is required.
  • Attend networking events, training, seminars, etc. as required.
  • Stay current with applicable legislation in the jurisdictions that our clients operate within.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant work experience in an HSE role. Experience within HSE across a diverse industry scope will be considered an asset.
  • Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related education is considered an asset.
  • Certifications such as CRSP, CHSC, NCSO or similar are highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial (AB, BC, SK) OH&S is required.
  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial transportation legislation is considered an asset.
  • Excellent working knowledge of and experience working with MS Office tools – specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with task management programs such as Asana, Monday, MS Projects, etc. is considered an asset.
  • Ability to effectively manage concurrent projects and keep all stakeholders up to date.
  • Ability to learn software quickly.
  • Ability to manage and organize high volume communication (phone, email, chat, etc).
  • Willing to work flexible hours when needed to meet client deadlines.
  • External auditor certification (ESC, ACSA, AASP, etc.) is considered an asset and/or pre-existing qualifications met to apply for this program.
  • Experience in the consulting sector is considered an asset.
