Black & McDonald Limited is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health, Safety, and Environmental Advisor to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. As a key member of our HSE team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our employees, clients, and the communities we serve.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Guidance: Provide strong leadership and guidance to assigned workplaces within Calgary and Southern Alberta, promoting a culture of safety and excellence.
- Policy Development and Implementation: Assist and support the Provincial HSE Manager in the development and implementation of corporate policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with Black & McDonald and regulatory requirements.
- Site Inspections and Compliance: Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with general and specific safety standards, identifying and addressing any non-compliance issues.
- Incident Investigations and Reporting: Lead and support incident investigations, mentoring and coaching field leadership in the completion of reports.
- Audit and Compliance: Conduct audits of subcontractor safety management systems, loss control programs, and non-compliance issues, preparing reports and making recommendations for changes as necessary.
- Certificate of Recognition Program (COR): Support the implementation of the COR program for the Alberta Region, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Communication and Feedback: Share feedback, observations, and reporting details related to regional HSE achievements and opportunities with regional managers and people leaders.
- Emergency Response Planning: Ensure emergency response plans are in place and aligned with local regulatory, regional, divisional, and corporate requirements.
- Regional Planning and Support: Participate in regional planning and provide support to regional managers and people leaders as needed.
- Industry Trends and Best Practices: Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and practices in the area of health, safety, and environment.
- Safety Management System Audit: Conduct and support the annual Safety Management System Audit, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Change Orientation: Demonstrate the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
- Communicates Effectively: Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing.
- Continuous Learning: Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.

- Certified Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC): Hold a Certified Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) designation, or a related certification.
- Minimum 5 Years of HSE Work Experience: Possess a minimum of 5 years of HSE work experience within the construction industry, ideally in commercial and utilities construction.
- Working Knowledge of Provincial and Local Safety and Environmental Regulations: Possess a working knowledge of provincial and local safety and environmental regulations and programs.
- Experience as COR Auditor: Hold experience as a COR Auditor, or a related role.
- Ability to Work Independently: Demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong Verbal and Written Communication Skills: Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing.
- Microsoft Office and Computer Literacy: Possess proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
- Ability to Facilitate Programs and Present to All Levels of Employees: Demonstrate the ability to facilitate programs and present to all levels of employees, including trades employees, office staff, and management.
- Position Based in Calgary NE Office: The position is based in the Calgary NE office, with minimal travel expected.
