About the position:

The Warehouse Manager is responsible for the overall management of warehouse operations and internal site logistics operations of bulk/packed materials, as well as coordinating and allocating resources for daily tasks. This includes ensuring the safe storage, handling, and distribution of chemical products, maintaining inventory accuracy, and optimizing warehouse processes to enhance efficiency and productivity.

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Work in a safe and responsible manner at all times, observing all of the site safety rules and standards.
  • Develop and enforce safety policies and standard operating procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of chemicals.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Report all unsafe situations immediately and follow up with a Gensuite near-miss entry.
  • Take part in risk assessments and Permit to Work writing within the Warehouse/logistics area of responsibility.
  • Lead, monitor, and motivate warehouse/logistics staff, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and teamwork.
  • Identify training and development requirements for the Team and ensure refresher training is completed as required.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and development opportunities for team members.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement initiatives to enhance warehouse efficiency and productivity.
  • Act as the point of contact between the Production Shift Team Leaders and the logistics/warehouse team.
  • Attend the relevant weekly meetings and complete any actions given in the agreed timeframe.
  • Organize the available resource to complete the daily activities taking priorities into account.
  • Manage the holiday schedule to ensure there is adequate resource on any given day.
  • Develop and implement efficient warehouse processes and procedures to ensure smooth operations, including the implementation/maintenance of the booking schedule of tankers and trucks in/off site.
  • Ensure that production is supplied with the required raw materials on time, and that finished products, empty packages, scrap material etc. are removed daily to the correct storage areas and documented.
  • Communicate with hauliers to ensure deliveries arrive on time.
  • Manage the PI counting schedule and work with the Supply Chain and Operations Manager to complete the reconciliation process.
  • Carry out stock taking as required.
  • Organize the annual racking inspection and ensure any repairs are completed.
  • Have responsibility for the FLT contract, ensure daily checks are completed, organize repairs and maintenance and replacement units at the end of the contract.
  • Responsible for ensuring the diesel storage tank levels are managed and new deliveries are scheduled correctly.
  • Carry out regular on-the-job audits to ensure SOP’s are being followed for activities such as tanker offloading and FLT/VNA operation.
  • Ensure FLT’s/VNA are driven correctly and safely adhering to the site speed limits at all times.
  • Monitor the quantity of empty packaging and organize collections with the appropriate suppliers.
  • Responsible for the waste storage compound ensuring it is kept tidy and structured and quantities are reported regularly to the HSE Manager.
  • Set and monitor housekeeping standards within the areas allocated to the Warehouse Team.
  • Ensure all ERP system transactions are completed in a timely manner, as soon as possible after the physical movement has been completed.
  • Ensure the effluent plant is managed within the agreed hours.
  • Investigate customer complaints and carry out identified corrective actions and improvements.
  • Provide sample requests in liaison with Technical and Customer services departments.
  • Ensure that the site quality system is adhered to.
  • Any other reasonable request.

Requirements:

  • Self-motivated and results driven with a proven track record of delivery and a comprehensive understanding of warehousing management systems, preferably in the chemical industry.
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory management, and logistics.
  • In-depth understanding of safety regulations and best practices related to the handling and storage of chemicals.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills with the ability to influence a team and build successful working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in monitoring team performance, and compliance against KPI’s.
  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement programs with improved results in productivity, process, service enhancements, innovation, and cost reduction.
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and coordination skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems or any other relevant stock management software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
