Resource Coordinator (Part-Time, 9 Month Contract), ABLE2

ABLE2 is a not-for-profit charitable organization that creates opportunities for people with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives by supporting them with programs, resources, and services. Canadians who have a disability face many barriers to society, including stigma, discrimination, poverty, exclusion from education and employment, and inequities in the health care and legal systems.

Reach Canada merged with ABLE2 in 2023 and is now known as the Reach Legal Program. Its mission to foster access to justice, through educational programs and independent legal referral services remains unchanged. Working with a network of over 200 lawyers, paralegals and mediators in Ottawa and the surrounding area, the Reach Legal Program holds educational seminars on a variety of topics relating to all types of disabilities and human rights, in addition to operating a highly successful legal referral program.

With funding from The Law Foundation of Ontario, the Reach Legal Program is delivering a project focused on increasing access to justice through front-line workers over a two-year period which ends in January 2025.

ABLE2 is seeking a Resource Coordinator for 20 hours per week to complete the delivery of this project for the Reach Legal Program. Compensation for this project is $32 per hour.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Resource Coordinator will be responsible for the development and execution of:

  • Regular video conferences or in-person sessions on legal information topics directed at front-line workers to assist people with disabilities, including determining relevant subjects, format, and appropriate speakers.
  • Legal resources for front-line workers including documents demonstrating when legal assistance can benefit clients.
  • Standardized requests for educational seminars targeting front-line workers.
  • Workshops and seminars to promote the Reach Legal Referral Program.
The duties of the Resource Coordinator will also include:
  • Delivery of legal referral program
  • Providing support to legal referral program volunteers as needed
  • Tracking of activities related to the project.
  • Identifying and conducting outreach to appropriate partner organizations
  • Surveying partner organizations
  • Completion of quarterly reports and any additional reports as required.
  • Travel within Ottawa and the Champlain region as required.
Requirements
  • Licensed Ontario Lawyer or Paralegal
  • Bilingual (French/English)
  • Experience developing and delivering educational or training programs.
  • Experience with project reporting.
  • Ability to work remotely and on-site as required.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Experience with database and spreadsheet software.
  • Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) certification and additional training or knowledge of matters related to disability is an asset.

Les Canadiennes et les Canadiens vivant avec des handicaps sont confrontés à de nombreux obstacles les empe chant de participer pleinement à la société . Il s’agit parfois de la stigmatisation, de la discrimination, de la pauvreté , de l’exclusion à l’emploi et des inégalités au niveau des systèmes d’éducation, de soins de santé et juridiques.

REACH Canada a fusionné avec ABLE2 en 2023 et est maintenant connu sous le nom du Programme juridique REACH. Sa mission, qui consiste à favoriser l’accès à la justice, par le biais de programmes éducatifs et de services d’orientation juridique indépendants, demeure inchangée. De concert avec un réseau de plus de 200 avocats, parajuristes et médiateurs d’Ottawa et des contrées avoisinantes, le Programme juridique REACH organise des séminaires éducatifs sur une panoplie de sujets liés à tous les types de handicaps et aux droits de la personne, en plus d’exploiter un programme juridique très réussi.

Grâce au financement de la Fondation du droit de l’Ontario, le programme juridique REACH a mis sur pied un projet visant l’amélioration de l’accès à la justice par le biais des travailleurs de première ligne sur une période de deux ans se terminant en janvier 2025.

ABLE2 est à la recherche d’un(e) coordonnateur(trice) de ressources pour un poste à temps partiel de 20 heures par semaine afin de compléter la réalisation de ce projet dans le cadre du Programme juridique REACH. La rémunération relative à ce projet est de $32 l’heure.

Fonctions et responsabilités

Le coordonnateur ou la coordonnatrice des ressources sera chargé de l’élaboration et de l’exécution des éléments suivants :
  • Des vidéo-conférences régulières ou des séances en personne sur des sujets d’information juridique à l’intention des travailleurs de première ligne, y compris l’identification des sujets pertinents, du format et des conférenciers appropriés afin d’aider les personnes vivant avec des handicaps.
  • Des ressources juridiques destinés aux travailleurs de première ligne, y compris des documents pouvant démontrer les bénéfices de l’aide juridique pour les clients.
  • L’uniformisation des demandes de séminaires de formation a l’intention des travailleurs de premie re ligne.
  • Des ateliers et séminaires pour promouvoir le programme d’orientation juridique REACH.
Les fonctions de la coordonnatrice ou du coordonnateur de ressources comprendront également:
  • Mise en œuvre d’un programme d’aiguillage juridique
  • Soutien aux bénévoles du programme d’aiguillage juridique, au besoin.
  • Suivi des activités liées au projet.
  • Identification et mise en œuvre des activités de sensibilisation auprès des organisations partenaires appropriées.
  • Sondage auprès des organisations partenaires
  • Rédaction des rapports trimestriels et tout autre rapport s’il y a lieu.
  • Déplacements à Ottawa et dans la région de Champlain, au besoin.
Exigences
  • Avocat ou parajuriste titulaire d’un permis de l’Ontario
  • Bilingue (Français/Anglais)
  • Expérience au niveau de l’élaboration et de la prestation de programmes d’éducation ou de formation.
  • Expérience en matie re de rapport de projet.
  • Capacité à travailler à distance et sur place au besoin.
  • Permis de conduire valide et accés à un véhicule
  • Expérience avec les bases de données et les tableurs.
  • Un certificat en vertu de la Loi sur l’accessibilité pour les personnes ayant des handicaps de l’Ontario (LAPHO) et une formation ou une connaissance supplémentaire des questions lie es aux personnes ayant des handicaps sont un atout.
