Job Description

The Opportunity

Manulife is seeking a results-oriented Oracle Database Administrator committed and self-motivated with exceptional technical skills in Oracle Exadata(x6) and Oracle 19c databases to join our team. The team is responsible to analyze, troubleshoot, develop, and maintain complex backend databases in support of multiple business applications.

Office locations: Ideally Waterloo-Canada or Toronto-Canada

Work arrangement: Role requires to be Hybrid - 3 days in Office, 2 days from Home

Role requires to be on Call support per schedule.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with IT project managers, programmers, architects, developers.

  • Development, management, implementation, and maintenance of back-ups & recovery procedures

  • Planning, oversight, Development, testing and execution of Disaster recovery processes

  • Reviewing and tuning Oracle and technology-specific database coding technologies (PL/SQL, isql, etc.)

  • Development, implementation, and management of shell and sql scripts used for process automation and streamlining

  • Plan, oversee, Develop, implement, and maintain security, compliance, database hardening and encryption standards, audit and access control frameworks and management of related documentation

  • Plan, oversee, Develop, implement, and maintain database setup, installation, configuration, monitoring and maintenance, as well as management of related documentation

  • Participate in on-call support rotation including after-hours/weekend duties.

  • Liaise with development team in the full development life cycle of database applications

  • Lead role in database and server patching and currency initiatives

  • Performance tuning and ensure high availability of infrastructure, including operating system and storage subsystem

Must have Knowledge in:

  • 5+ years’ experience in Oracle database as an Administrator managing production environments

  • Oracle 12c/19c on Exadata, Linux & Unix environments

  • Clusterware, ASM, RAC

  • Database hardening and security standards like TDE, SSL/TCPS and auditing, access control and authentication.

  • Database backups and recovery techniques using RMAN

  • Oracle Dataguard, physical standby and active Dataguard

  • Performance tuning and Query Optimization

  • Oracle upgrade and patching experience

  • OEM upgrade and patching

  • Develop reports and metrics using OEM.

  • DB incident, problem, change and configuration management processes.

Expert Knowledge in:

  • Scripting skills (Perl & Bash), SQL/PLSQL

  • Database monitoring tools and technologies (OEM, Foglight, New Relic, etc.)

  • Experience in working with Oracle Platinum support

  • ITIL process

  • Adherence to good Database Design principles

  • Multiple Unix environments, including Linux and IBM AIX platforms

  • Oracle Tools: OEM, Grid Control, RAC RMAN, ASM, Data Pump, Oracle partitioning, SQL*Loader, HA, transportable tablespace management, Virtual Private Database, SQL tuning Advisor, Explain plans, SQL trace, TKPROOF, materialized views, oracle streams, AWR, ASH, Data-Guard, RMAN active duplications, Flashback, ADDM, Resource Manager, DBCA, DBUA, Dbms Redefinition, SQL*Net, ODBC, Packages / Procedures / Functions.

Nice to have Knowledge in:

  • Databases: DB2 LUW/ZOS, Postgre SQL, & Mongo DB

  • Integration to AIOps tool, Moogsoft

  • Azure cloud platform solutions

  • CI/CD pipeline.

Experience in:

  • Agile and DevOps principles, test-driven development, continuous integration, and other approaches to accelerate the delivery of new features

  • Skilled to collaborate and build relationships with Manulife business and risk partners

  • Data-driven decision-making skills

  • Having the ability to quickly pivot to newer technologies as required

  • Attends advanced training sessions and is certified on multiple domains of expertise

  • Good working and background knowledge of the area of practice

  • Ability to adopt and change with Manulife corporate culture

  • Good organizational and problem-solving abilities that enable you to manage through creative abrasion

  • Good verbal and written communication; able to effectively articulate technical vision, possibilities, and outcomes

  • Able to achieve most tasks using own judgment

  • Can lead smaller groups where required

  • Good analytical skills, copes with complex situations through deliberate analysis and planning

Qualifications

  • BSC Information Systems / Computer Science, or equivalent

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Waterloo, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$70,350.00 CAD - $117,250.00 CAD
