About this opportunity: Reporting to the Senior Manager of Conventional Development, the Reservoir Engineer will be part of a dynamic reservoir team that manages our Conventional subsurface business performance. You will play a key role in the optimization and development of assets by participating in a cross-functional team environment to identify and assess opportunities and execute development plans. The successful candidate will build upon and expand their broad knowledge of subsurface technical analysis, upstream operations, developing investment opportunities, economic evaluations, lookbacks, competitor analysis, budgeting, evaluating reserves and business acumen. Occasional travel to site will be required.

What you'll do:
  • Ensure safety is always top of mind in planning, design, and execution.
  • Develop strong working relationships with those within the Reservoir Engineering community and with individuals in many other disciplines (G&G, Land, Earthworks, Drilling, Completions, Facilities, Production Ops, Joint Interest, Field Staff, Production Accounting, Finance).
  • Collaborate with business partners to design appraisal and full-field development plans with optimized well designs, leveraging infrastructure, and identifying JI opportunities.
  • Conduct economic evaluations of drilling programs as well as land sales, acquisitions, field optimizations, non-operated partner activity, workover projects, etc.
  • Provide technical analysis and recommendations on land acquisitions, farm-outs and divestitures.
  • Lead and complete technical and economic analysis to support various A&D initiatives.
  • Develop budget and Long-Range Plan options with associated capital, production, reserves and operating costs.
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary team to fully characterize the asset base - Generating inventory by calibrating geological mapping to production and creating type curves through both reservoir simulation and offset well analysis.
  • Leverage subsurface understanding to optimize pad placement, drilling strategy, completion design and inter-well spacing to maximize the economic potential of any given play.
  • Work closely with Well Delivery in planning and execution of programs and reforecasting production results.
  • Look back on execution programs, existing wells, and competitor analysis - evaluating what processes, designs, and technologies are working to improve asset value and continuously tweaking them for improvement.
  • Conduct property evaluations and participate in well reviews to assess opportunities and optimize production.
  • Evaluate annual reserves through decline curve analyses, material balance, volumetrics, rate transient analyses (both deterministic and stochastic methods).
  • Prepare regulatory applications and responses and ensure compliance on reservoir and development issues.
  • Assist the joint interest team in finding opportunities and supporting existing base operations.
  • Provide support for operations and special development initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Accumap, ValNav, Enersight, Harmony, and CMG.
  • Create data visualizations (Spotfire).
Who you are:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must have a post-secondary degree in Engineering.
  • Must be registered as an engineer with APEGA.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in upstream oil and gas engineering (operations, production, development, reservoir and/or business development).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Western Canada Deep Basin development/reservoir engineering and be a qualified reserves evaluator.
  • Experience with developing type curves, optimizing wellbore designs and conducting economic evaluations.
  • Ability to collaborate tightly with other groups to achieve shared goals and identify opportunities.
  • Strong sense of business acumen, practical problem-solving skills and listening effectively.
