The Opportunity

In the role of Safety Specialist working primarily out of Calgary, Alberta, you will report to the Contractor Safety Manager and will support the site and office team dedicated to your assigned projects on the implementation, oversight, and promotion of safety awareness. The Safety Specialist ensures that project execution is conducted in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable provincial/federal Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental, and Workers Compensation legislation, by integrating and implementing company and 3rd party HSE policies and procedures.

What You'll Do
  1. Manage the company health and safety programs at a field level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work
  2. Implementing and monitoring corporate safety policies and procedures
  3. Assisting in safety program development and continual improvement
  4. Assure our contractors programs meet requirements and expectations
  5. Site support for projects as required
  6. Complete and / or support incident investigation (ex. RCFA process) as required
  7. Provide corrective action recommendations and assist in implementing metrics for tracking and reporting on performance
  8. Provide oversight at project site locations to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance
  9. Routinely monitor the workforce for safe and unsafe behaviors and coach workforce on the correct behaviors when observed
  10. Develop and support the implementation of health and safety documentation, specific to field-based activities and projects
  11. Complete audits and reviews on field-based safety documentation (Company & Contractor)
  12. Interpret safety regulations specific to projects
  13. Coordinate and present safety training to support company requirements
  14. Administrative activities associated with health and safety requirements
Minimum Qualifications

Secondary (high) school diploma or equivalency certificate

6 + years of related experience

Familiarity with federal/provincial OHS codes and regulations

Preferred Qualifications

Degree or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety will be considered an asset

A Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation will be considered an asset

Bilingual (English and French speaking) would be considered an asset
