DESCRIPTION:

The Library at UBC’s Okanagan campus invites applications from creative, service-oriented librarians who excel at leading diverse teams and are committed to supporting transformative student learning experiences and research excellence for a full-time ongoing position as the Head, Teaching Partnerships and Public Services. Reporting to the Deputy University Librarian, Okanagan Campus, this position is responsible for providing intellectual and administrative leadership for their unit contributing to the development of lasting, innovative, and responsive teaching and public services that position the Library as a vital resource for the campus, and its diverse stakeholders, now and into the future.

The Head will be a member of a team that is responsible for the daily operational management of the UBC Okanagan Library, and ensures that the development of the services and policies meet the needs of faculty, students, and staff. The Head, representing their Teaching Partnerships and Public Services unit, provides input into the strategic and budgetary planning of the Okanagan Library to ensure that targets and goals are reasonable. They also provide input into the delivery and assessment of Library services, and may act as the committee delegate of the Deputy University Librarian, Okanagan Campus as necessary.

The Head will work collaboratively in a consultative environment, and lead and adapt to changes in the Okanagan Library's organization and operational model. The nature and scope of the responsibilities for this position are expected to change as the Okanagan Library’s organizational and strategic needs evolve.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the Okanagan Library’s Teaching Partnerships and Public Services. Situated within this portfolio are the teams responsible for:

  1. Learning and Curriculum Support, which designs, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates information literacy programs and services that support transformative learning objectives;
  2. Public Services, which includes reference services and outreach, a variety of campus collaborations including the Student Learning Hub, makerspace UBCO, the Inclusive Technology Lab; and the UBC Innovation Library located in downtown Kelowna.

As a manager-practitioner, the incumbent will also participate actively in the delivery of library services including reference, teaching, faculty liaison, and collection development. The area(s) will be assigned at the discretion of the Deputy University Librarian, Okanagan Campus and in consultation with the Head.

ENVIRONMENT:

The UBC Library is committed to being a respectful, healthy environment that encourages leadership, collegiality, diversity, individual growth and opportunity.
