Specialist, Store Development and Construction Job Summary Reporting to the Manager, National Store Development & Construction and working directly alongside the Regional Real Estate leads, the Specialist is charged with supporting the overall real estate team in achieving their goals of new store growth and maximizing real estate performance across the chain nationally. The Specialist will be responsible for the broad functional support of all store development and construction activities, and coordinate, manage, and track all construction activities for the business. Key Accountabilities
  • Work closely with all members of the Real Estate team to ensure that the store pipeline and construction lists are kept up to date;
  • Coordinate the design and construction processes for new stores, relocations, expansions and renovations;
  • Follow up with contractors, architects, engineers, landlords and other internal employees and stakeholders to ensure the timely creation and distribution of all construction related documentation and plans;
  • Coordinate all necessary approvals for construction and opening including internal approvals, landlord approvals, building permits, occupancy permits and any other requirements for the timely opening of stores;
  • Work with contractors on the possession process ensuring accurate and timely completion of landlord work requirements;
  • Familiarize with Dollarama operational standards and requirements, and understand how to incorporate these critical aspects into store designs so that new store and renovation projects meet the needs of the business;
  • Participate in the design process providing recommendations for specific design decisions as well as suggested modifications to standard landlord and tenant work schedules in order to improve functionality and reduce costs where possible;
  • Assist with standardizing construction processes across different regions, designers, architects, contractors and internal stakeholders;
  • Establish budgets and manage construction pricing within the current framework and make recommendations where improvements can be made;
  • Respond to queries from landlords, designers, architects, contractors, municipalities and internal personnel; and
  • Attend construction sites as necessary and must be flexible to travel.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Project Management, or relevant to a Real Estate/Construction field;
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience gained in the retail or commercial real estate field; 
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail;
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills with an ability to resolve issues amongst multiple parties;
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities while managing tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Advanced skills in Excel and experience building databases; and
  • Travel will be required, and the incumbent must possess a valid driver's license. 

** The preferred location for the incumbent is Toronto, ON but there is flexibility for Montreal, QC.
