Job Description
Roles, Responsibilities and Qualifications
Role Description
- Scrum Master acts as a project manager throughout the initiation, planning, execution, control and close-out phases of the project management life cycle, and is responsible for the management of the agile sprint process for a scrum team.
- Provides team leadership, guidance, and mentoring in agile principles, policies, and procedures.
- Assists with adopting strategies as part of a multi-disciplinary agile team.
- Facilitates on-the-job learning of essential concepts and tools that promote the adoption of modern service delivery and transformation within the GoA.
- Manages and navigates changes in direction, including priorities and expectations, to ensure successful completion of sprint sessions.
- Manages communication to improve transparency and disseminate information.
- Leads and facilitates key agile ceremonies, including planning sessions, stand-ups, product demos and retrospectives.
- Negotiates agreements regarding resource requirements to expand/collapse the agile team as needed to meet commitments.
- Negotiates changes to agreed commitments with the DIO to ensure the agile team delivers within acceptable timelines.
- Ensures the agile team achieves the correct level of commitment through negotiation with the DIO.
- Identifies and removes roadblocks and distractions that affect sprint commitments and prevent delivering of product features.
- Mitigates conflict and ensures resolution.
- Enables the agile team to become self-organised and empowered to deliver consistently on sprint session commitments.
- Maintains metrics using project management tools to provide visibility on product level plans, progress and quality assurance.
- Participates in field work and user research as part of a cross-functional agile team.
- Other responsibilities as required or requested.
- Experience leading and mentoring team(s) in agile principles, policies and procedures.
- Experience with one-on-one and team coaching.
- Experience leading and facilitating key agile ceremonies, including planning sessions, stand-ups, product demonstrations and retrospectives.
- Experience with agile product management tools (e.g. Jira, Kanban, Taiga).
- Experience planning work that aligns to product owner priorities.
- Experience with software development.
- Experience with agile projects, preferably in or for a public sector organisation.
- Experience with web development, user-centred design and UI best practices.
- Experience developing and maintaining working relationships with multiple clients and stakeholders, including negotiating agreements and resolving conflicts.
- Industry-recognized Scrum Master certification.
- Experience working with teams that also apply UX design, service design, design thinking, or human-centred design approaches.
