As the Director of Execution Services, you will be a foundational part of our operations team and the leader of our transaction execution business. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer/General Counsel, you will lead and coach a team of analysts and associates responsible for running all of Hiive’s transactions from agreement to close, and provide a supportive escalation path for your team. You will build process and infrastructure to expand capacity and streamline operations, and work with our internal product development team to define and refine execution-related product requirements. You will work cross-functionally to solve problems and deliver exceptional client service, and liaise with buyers, sellers, and other stakeholders as we carry out our mission to unlock the value of the private markets.

This is an incredibly unique role for a senior operations or financial services professional, or a corporate lawyer with operations or leadership experience.

Key Responsibilities & Challenges:

  • Lead and coach a team of 5+ associates executing all of Hiive’s transactions from provisional agreement to closing.

  • “Lead from the front lines”: provide hands-on support, a clear escalation path and real-time problem-solving to your analysts and associates as they navigate transaction execution.

  • “Be ten steps ahead”: Plan for the future of the operations function in the context of Hiive’s broader strategic goals as a world-class private market ecosystem.

  • Say “yes, and here’s how”: Respond to new strategic initiatives with a clear view of what it will take to accomplish them operationally in terms of capabilities, resources and timelines.

  • Blend operational strategy with commercial strategy and provide solutions to both the operations and the capital markets team in order to create a seamless customer experience from solicitation to close.

  • Build and continuously improve a culture of excellent client services.

  • Create robust and flexible operational processes to efficiently transact high-volume, high-touch deals with multiple counterparties.

  • Review, draft and amend legal documents as necessary to achieve transaction objectives in complex situations.

  • Work closely with various internal stakeholders such as legal, compliance, sales operations, and marketing to ensure that all relevant parties are kept abreast of evolving transaction dynamics.

  • Liaise with finance to generate real-time visibility into transactions.

  • Be the confident face of the transaction execution business, liaising with buyers, sellers and their legal representatives to solve problems and deliver exceptional client service.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years experience in trading, banking, private funds or corporate/commercial law at a world-class firm, institution, start-up or financial services company.

  • 2+ years of managerial experience leading teams of 3+ people.

  • An undergraduate degree (and preferably a graduate or professional degree) in a relevant area, such as law, commerce or economics. JD or MBA preferred.

  • Strong technical skills and ability to self-teach new tools and technologies.

  • Resourcefulness and the ability to solve difficult problems.

  • Excellent attention to detail, resourcefulness, and speed of execution.

  • Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to communicate priorities and deadlines with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to build constructive high-trust relationships across teams and functions.

  • A track record of sound judgment and composure in high-pressure situations.

Nice to Have (but not required):

  • Prior experience executing private transactions (M&A, capital markets, secondaries, structured products or credit).

  • Experience in a tech startup, high-growth company, private equity or venture capital fund.
