We are partnering with an established developer in the Ottawa area looking for a Health & Safety Officer to ensure compliance and enforcement of policies and procedures under the Occupational Health & Safety Act and WSIB. Working in collaboration with various project managers, you will be responsible to working through any incidents or areas of safety risk to minimize injuries and operational losses. While you will be expected to be on sites about 80% of the time and head office 20% of the time, your responsibilities would include:

  1. Encourage a positive work culture and communication around the importance of Health & Safety
  2. Develop & implement policies, procedures and best practices for a safety first culture
  3. Lead training, development, communication & orientation for the health & safety program and ensure ongoing compliance
  4. Provide incident reports to stakeholders and make recommendations for preventative action
  5. Conduct on site visits to review and customize safety requirements for specific sites
  6. Create reports for leadership on a regular basis

We are looking for a Health & Safety Officer with a minimum of 1 year of experience working with the Health & Safety Act and WSIB regulations. You will bring a comprehensive understanding of the requirements and know how to apply them to various site environments. Experience working within a construction environment with multiple sites is required. You will hopefully have a post secondary certification in Occupational Health & Safety and bring a thorough understanding of the importance to an organization. The successful candidate must have a driver's license and car access to be able to travel to project sites. You will be able to demonstrate your commitment to teamwork, a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills to be able to work with various project managers. Proficiency using H&S Tracking tools, a track record of solving problems and organizing your time is essential.
