Ottawa, Canada Rail Cantech Full time

Rail Cantech is looking for a Health and Safety Officer to support its Project Management Team that is building the Ottawa LRT Confederation Line Extension in Ottawa.

The project includes the construction of two extensions of the existing Confederation Line with the East Connector adding 12.5km of double track from the existing Blair station into the suburbs of Orleans, and the West Connector adding 14.5km of double track from Tunney Pasteur station towards Kanata and Nepean.

Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the Health and Safety Officer is responsible for performing field audits and follow-up on non-conformance and non-compliance. The Health and Safety Offer will provide leadership and coaching of safe operating procedures and supports the field teams with the day-to-day safety assessments to achieve the objectives for the project.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Promote the company’s safety and workplace culture and adhere to the federal, provincial and company policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all company employees, our clients, our subcontractors, and the general public enjoy a safe working environment on our construction sites.
- Ensure the compliance of HS requirements on site.
- Conduct daily site safety audits to ensure a safe work environment for all.
- Provide support to the field teams by coaching, and monitoring safety measures through presence in the field.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the Health and Safety programs in the field and ensure that all safety expectations are understood and adhered to.
- Ensure new hires have the required trainings to perform their duties.
- Assist in Organizing HS related documents.
- follow up on safety briefings and safety walks as part of the companies’ prevention strategy.
- Ensure that all notifications, safety boards and other postings are maintained with current information.
- Assist the HS manager, field engineers, supervisors, and foreman in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause, and corrective actions where necessary.
- Ensure incident corrective actions are followed up on and completed.
- Assist the HS manager in coordinating safety information and training events.

**Qualifications and Skills**
- Occupational Health & Safety Degree, Diploma or Certificate of CRSP is an asset.
- 3-5 years Health and Safety field experience.
- Experience in Incident Investigations and Root Cause Analysis.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced computer skills of Microsoft Office 365 Product suite and Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS).
- Ability to speak/read/write in French language is an asset.
