Purpose
The Analyst will support senior team members in monthly reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and planning. The role involves conducting financial analysis, financial modeling, creating presentations and scenario analysis. This high-impact, visible role offers an exciting opportunity to engage in enterprise-wide information flow and participate in strategic corporate finance decisions.

The successful candidate will have advanced financial modeling skills, an investor’s mindset, be a self-starter, and excel in collaborating with cross-functional partners. Key attributes for success include problem-solving, innovative thinking, and creating effective solutions.

Accountabilities

Monthly & Quarterly Internal Reporting and Forecasting:

  • Analyze monthly and quarterly financial results, focusing on variance analysis, key drivers, and reporting on key financial metrics to senior leadership, the Audit Committee, and the Board of Directors.
  • Perform advanced financial modeling in Excel, including pro forma, valuation, EPS accretion/dilution, credit metrics and bridging to previous versions.
  • Define, implement, and improve processes and best practices to automate financial reporting, financial models and analysis, utilizing tools such as Power BI, Excel, and SAC.
  • Support ad-hoc financial projects and initiatives as required.

Budgeting and Planning:

  • Provide hands-on leadership of Liberty’s integrated forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning process. Responsibilities include coordination, financial modeling, variance analysis, and development of presentation material for senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Become a power user of Algonquin’s ecosystem of corporate and regulated utility models and decision tools (e.g., 1-year monthly model, 5-year annual corporate model).
  • Collaborate with Treasury, Tax, Accounting, and business unit FP&A to align planning assumptions with key stakeholders.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Extract and upload relevant data from and to the planning system (SAP Analytical Cloud) and prepare various checks and assist in developing SAC reports and dashboards over time.
  • Create clear schedules, tables and bridges to present data coherently.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in financial planning and analysis, corporate finance, accounting, or a related discipline.
  • Advanced Excel-based financial modeling skills (for example 3-statements).
  • Robust understanding of corporate finance and accounting concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA, CFA, MBA, or other relevant financial designations.
  • Prior experience in analytical roles such as corporate development, equity research, corporate finance, or transaction services.
  • Experience managing multiple initiatives in a fast-paced corporate environment.
  • Experience utilizing financial analysis techniques, tools, and concepts to analyze and draw conclusions from business data.
  • Passion for analytics and leveraging information systems to distill complexity into clear, actionable insights. Comfort with or willingness to learn financial systems (SAP, HFM, SAC).
  • Experience in the utilities industry.
