Investing and lending is at the heart of SPE. SPE actively identifies new investment opportunities and performs a full range of M&A activities, including rationalization, full-scale due diligence, negotiation, and transaction.
Position summary
The Senior Financial Specialist works closely with the VP of Finance on areas including dashboard reporting, control, process streamlining, and policy development. This role provides financial advice to business partners and contributes to various strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Dashboard Reporting and Financial Analysis:
· Support the VP of Finance in preparing quarterly consolidated dashboard reports.
· Collaborate with the FP&A team to ensure timely submission of monthly reporting packages, cash flow forecasts, and other relevant management reports.
Internal Controls and Policy Development:
· Implement and closely monitor internal control policies, procedures, and processes.
· Work with the VP of Finance and the Controller to document processes and develop policies.
Cost-Saving and Resource Optimization:
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and assess cost-saving opportunities.
· Develop and maintain financial models to support scenario analysis and resource optimization.
ERP System Implementation:
· Play a key role in developing and implementing ERP systems to increase operational efficiencies.
Tax Compliance and Risk Management:
· Work closely with the Controller and VP of Finance to oversee tax filing processes, ensuring compliance with corporate tax, HST, and other government reconciliation and remittances.
· Assist the VP of Finance in identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial risks to ensure compliance and safeguard the organization’s financial health.
Ad-Hoc Analysis and Special Projects:
· Support the Finance leadership team in ad-hoc analyses and special projects addressing specific business needs and challenges.
Employment Requirements:
· Minimum of two years’ experience in a medium to large-sized public accounting firm and ideally with an additional 2-3 years of industry experience in reporting or financial analysis
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, with a recognized accounting designation (CPA).
· Proficiency in financial software systems and advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP system implementation is an asset.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Self-motivated with a passion to grow.
· Ability to set and meet deadlines for multiple deliverables and prioritize effectively.
· Proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven recommendations.
· Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with team members and stakeholders.
