About the role:

A Member of Parliament from Simcoe County is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Constituency Assistant. In this role you will act as a first line of response to constituents with questions or concerns related to federal government services.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Answer phones and greet visitors;
  • Respond to queries from the public by phone or email for cases related to passports, immigration, Canada Revenue, and Old Age Security and other federal government services;
  • Log constituent communications using CRM software;
  • Contact government services on behalf of constituents to collect information and to seek and achieve a resolution;
  • Ensure follow up with constituents throughout their file lifecycle in a timely manner;
  • Work collaboratively with the constituency office team in all other related tasks to optimize the work of the Member;
  • Attend various community events and commitments with or on behalf of the Member;
  • Support with special projects or files assigned by the Member;
  • Maintains a media monitoring system to maximize the Member’s opportunities for exposure;
  • Obtains, edits, and organizes photos and video footage of MP and community activities;
  • Formats complex documents and templates including presentations, reports, memos, and forms for distribution to internal and external clients.

Qualified Candidates should have the following:

  • Post-secondary education from a recognized institution OR an acceptable combination of education, training, and relevant experience;
  • One to two years of experience working in an office setting providing reception or administrative support;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office;
  • Familiar with Canva and basic design;
  • Experience with social media use for business;
  • Comfortable with basic videography and photography for social media promotions;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently;
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills and the ability to deal with people diplomatically and with tact.

Assets:

  • Bilingual in both official languages;
  • Understanding of the political landscape.
  • Experience dealing with senior officials and/or parliamentarians.
  • Knowledge of the Barrie—Springwater—Oro-Medonte area
