With a strong foundation within the community and a focus on connection, unity, and compassion, the organization provides a vital link for youth and families in the province of Manitoba.
SUMMARY: The Link requires experienced Full Time Team Leads within our Respite Home which will facilitate supervised overnight family visits for children and families involved with Winnipeg, Rural and Northern Child and Family Services. The unique home will provide 24/7 support for youth in a home-like setting while providing families a break. The Team Lead must work from a person-centered, non-judgmental, trauma-informed, strength-based philosophy, also responsible for collaborating across various systems to ensure that outcomes are in the best interest of the youth, and align with the overall mission and purpose of the program.
The Team Lead will assist the program Supervisor in both the daily operation and development of the program. They will work collaboratively with other team members, supervisors, and other Programs to participate within an open-minded, strengths-based, trauma-informed, relational child and youth care approach framework that promotes the cultivation and mobilization of youth strengths, potential and capacity for growth.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: of the Team Lead include, but are not limited to:
- Provides coverage for the Program Supervisor during scheduled absences fulfilling all responsibilities of the Program Supervisor.
- Ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the home at an optimal level.
- Support families to access cultural activities and ceremonies if requested.
- Support youths by way of mentoring, coaching and teaching to parent independently and meet the needs of their children.
- Provide holistic mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual support to families based on the teachings of the Medicine Wheel.
- Establish a trusting relationship with parents and their children.
- Completes administrative duties, as assigned by the Program Supervisor; these duties may include:
- Assisting with interviewing and hiring of Family Preservation and Reunification Workers.
- Scheduling, coordinating and training casual Family Preservation and Reunification Workers.
- Orientation for new staff.
- Coordinating the distribution of information to the team.
- Scheduling meetings and home maintenance.
- Ongoing mentorship to Family Preservation and Reunification Workers.
- Participates in ongoing professional development to increase knowledge in the field and increase skill level to continue meeting developing employment needs.
- Participate in meetings as required, promote positive teamwork, and exhibit a high degree of positive role modeling for young people.
- Supports the program to reflect The Link treatment philosophy, organizational and Human Resource policies and program protocols; including representing the program and the organization in a professional manner.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of the Child and Family Services system in Manitoba, particularly in the context of Indigenous communities and the impacts of inter-generational and historical trauma.
- Create or support an environment of collaboration while still contributing and sharing credit freely with the team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate should demonstrate the following competencies, which incorporate the Seven Sacred Teachings - Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, and Humility & Truth.
Essential Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Human Services or a combination of education, work experience and lived experience may be considered.
- Four (4) years of progressive related experience working with families in a supportive manner.
- Demonstrated understanding and appreciation for issues and concerns of Indigenous peoples within a child welfare environment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite software and the ability to operate in a networked environment; which may include writing incident reports, developing and editing documents and corresponding with emails.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations and confidential information in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Effective problem-solving ability and strong communication skills.
- Experience working with vulnerable children and youth with an array of behavioral needs.
- Strong counseling skills and experience in Relational Care, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
- Person-focused crisis resolution and clinical counseling experience.
- Ability to reflect or seek guidance to ensure support given is representative of the organization's mission and values.
- Knowledge of Strength-based philosophy and knowledge of Indigenous culture and language preferred.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a clear Child Abuse Registry Check with acceptable Prior Contact Check outcomes and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check; all completed within the last 3 months.
- Manitoba 5F Driver's License.
Preferred or willing to obtain within the first 3 (three) months
- ASIST Certificate (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and/or any de-escalation training preferred;
- Mental Health First Aid & Safe Talk;
- The Link Commit 2 Kids Training;
- Certification in either DLE (The Purposeful Use of Daily Life Events) or TCS (Therapeutic Crisis Solutions).

HOURS OF WORK: This is a full-time position based on 40 hours per week and required to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends and holidays, and potentially overnights when operationally needed.
Salary: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour.
