Kerr Street Mission (KSM) is a Christian charity dedicated to helping the community of Oakville care for low-income and at-risk families and youth, by coming alongside families in distress and helping them get to a healthier, more sustainable situation and by developing youth so they do not end up in poverty.

Position Title: Food Services Manager

Position Summary: The Food Services Manager at Kerr Street Mission (KSM) is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the various operational aspects of KSM’s Food Service programs. The goal is to establish KSM Food Services as “Best In Class” by ensuring everyone has access to nutritious and culturally appropriate foods (consistent quantity and quality of needed items) and that participants experience with the KSM Food Service programs are positive (people are treated with respect, compassion and dignity).

Reporting to: Director of Operations 
 
Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours weekly) from Monday to Friday 
 
Benefits: Available after three (3) month probationary period. 

What the Manager is responsible for and what they will be evaluated on:

  • They will coach and develop the food service team (currently 5 employees, and a group of volunteers) and lead the pursuit of performance improvement
  • The Food Service Manager will lead and supervise the Food Service team and will ensure that the rest of the KSM staff are aligned and equipped, as required, to support the Food Service operations.
  • They will ensure that nutritious food is regularly available and is distributed effectively to those in need through the KSM market and other food programs.
  • They will ensure that processes and systems of the food services operations are clear, consistent, efficient, and effective.
  • They will ensure that all food safety protocols, and all other KSM policies are adhered to.
  • They will ensure all documentation and reports are completed accurately and on time.
  • They will continue to grow and strengthen partner relationships to ensure they are strong and maximized.
  • They will lead the team in prayer time and devotions

They will work closely with the Director of Operations to:

  • Develop and implement the Food Services Strategy for Kerr Street Mission
  • Identify and implement best practices
  • Develop and manage the food service budget
  • Plan and write grants and proposals, including grant reporting
  • Monitor and evaluate KPI’s and metrics

Meeting the needs of our clients while maintaining a level of excellence, integrity and respect is of the utmost importance and as such this position is responsible for ensuring that excellent customer service is provided to food bank clients, by supporting staff and volunteers with the resources needed to complete their jobs safely and effectively.

What we believe is required to be successful (Qualifications):

  • A combination of real-life experience, education, and training that will provide the background to perform the responsibilities of this position
  • Current knowledge of food safety requirements and knowledge of food safety protocols and regulations
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Experience managing and analyzing data using Office365 software
  • Project and budget management
  • Not for profit experience, and knowledge about issues related to hunger and poverty are an asset
  • Ability to understand the needs of individuals who are experiencing poverty or food insecurity
  • An ability to facilitate a problem-solving process and to make decisions collaboratively
  • An ability to ask questions that lead to an understanding of the merits of different approaches and to shift strategies in respond to demands of the situation.
  • Works independently and collaboratively
  • Full G license
  • In-depth understanding and experience in managing people and a team in an unpredictable environment

Experience in the following would be an asset:

  • Food bank operations, and/or warehouse systems and logistics
