POSITION SUMMARY:

The Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Specialist works within our Legal, Privacy and Compliance department and is responsible for providing oversight and leadership to the Infection, Prevention and Control (IPAC) Program at SE Health.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the organizational IPAC program (national)
  • Provides expert advice and guidance to support the implementation, evaluation and sustainability of new programs
  • Develop policies and procedures for achieving compliance with best practices and provincial standards
  • Plan, develop and evaluate educational programs and resources to increase awareness of, and mitigate risks associated with, communicable diseases/infections
  • Lead the design of a robust surveillance program, collaborating with key internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop metrics and relevant data collection plans
  • Overall responsibility to analyze and review infection control data to inform continuous quality improvement
  • Implement quality improvement strategies, including outcomes of surveillance and incident analysis
  • Provides leadership to ensure alignment with accreditation requirements pertaining to infection prevention and control
  • Designs and implements IPAC campaigns to improve awareness and healthcare provider adherence to IPAC practices
  • Participates in immunization/immunity activities
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders (internal/external)
  • Represents SE Health at provincial and national committees and/or associations such as IPAC Canada
  • All other reasonable duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Baccalaureate degree in relevant health science or related discipline
  • Current Certification in Infection Control (CIC)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in community and acute care/surgical setting.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills as well as expertise in problem solving, and multi-tasking
  • Experience in design and implementation of surveillance programs
  • Experience in outbreak prevention and management
  • Strong knowledge of current legislation and regulations
  • Highly organized, with an ability to determine priorities and plan activities while performing a variety of different responsibilities with conflicting deadlines

Primarily virtual with some occasional travel within Ontario which could include site visits or meetings at our Home Office in Markham and surrounding area.
