Asset Investment Analyst

WORK ILLUSTRATION:

Reporting to the Manager, Customer Connections Planning & Technical Analysis, the Asset Investment Analyst will provide a wide range of engineering support services that will ensure technical soundness, reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical Distribution Power System. The Asset Investment Analyst is responsible for data management, data analytics, reviewing offer to connect documents, and building non-binding estimates for customers. The incumbent will play a critical role in reviewing offers to connect, running economic evaluation models, and processing yearly settlements as per current OEB regulations, distribution system codes, and Toronto Hydro Conditions of Service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to support the review of offers to connect (OTC) for expansion projects and ensure Toronto Hydro standards and conditions of service guidelines are met.
  • Conducts thorough analysis of power consumption for past expansion projects to timely process the settlement and release of line of credit.
  • Plays a significant role in the strategic development of Asset Management capabilities by leading working groups across business units to drive business process improvements and system implementation initiatives.
  • Reviews various input forms, internal designs, customer drawings, and customer information to run the economic evaluation model necessary to finalize offers to connect for expansion projects.
  • Provides timely technical support and consultation, demonstrates effective project management and process efficiencies; reviews, develops, and/or presents business proposals, plans, designs, processes, operational procedures, and practices.
  • Runs periodic checks on database tables to ensure that the data is valid and consistent.
  • Performs data profiling to produce data quality metrics and assess associated risks involved in integrating or converting data for new applications.
  • Conducts analysis involving large data sets and multiple variables in response to data needs, and supports Asset Records by improving the quality of data within Toronto Hydro.
  • Performs analysis of process and system changes to identify and communicate impacts.
  • Develops process maps and workflow visualizations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Contributes to Asset System and Information Management policy and procedure development; recommends changes, additions, deletions to business and data validation rules.
  • Participates and collaborates with various internal and external stakeholders such as designers, customers, stations, legal, regulatory, etc.
  • Investigates and evaluates the application of new technologies and tools.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Undergraduate degree preferably in Engineering, Electrical, Information Systems, Geography/GIS programs, and/or related discipline.
  • Three (3) years of data management, process optimization, analysis for business projects, identification of areas for improvement, and development of new information quality improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge and application of Distribution system code, OEB regulations, conditions of service.
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Solid understanding of relational database systems, with the ability to transform raw data in different formats into various analytical reports.
  • Experience with Python/R, Alteryx, SQL, Robotics Process Automation (RPA), and Tableau considered an asset.
  • Self-motivated, operates with a high degree of independence, and takes ownership of work, striving for a standard of excellence.
  • Aptitude and experience in adapting to, managing, and facilitating change, as well as a willingness to challenge the status quo.

  • Fully proficient in the use of the entire Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Access, Project, Visio, and Dynamics 365 (CRM).

  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to predict and understand technological trends and their effect on business or strategic work plans.
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and business solution development skills, including the proven ability to function effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Champions Change, Productivity, and Innovation; learns and adopts continuous improvement and productivity methods.
  • Knowledge/training in asset management practices is an asset.

Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
