This Opportunity

We are currently looking to fill a Payroll Administrator role in our Payroll & Compensation department.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the timely, complete, and accurate processing of payroll in compliance with MODC policies and procedures, H&S regulations, government legislations, and collective agreements.
  • Verify the accuracy of data, calculate, and key in all adjustments and resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Reconcile and validate that employees are paid in accordance to employment contracts and are charged to the proper cost centre, GL accounts, site, region, etc.
  • Enter pay rate changes and calculate retroactive pay increase, where applicable.
  • Set up garnishments, donations, and third-party payments.
  • Process payroll-related entries including employee terminations, severance pay, STD, WSIB, LOA, maternity leave, unpaid leave, etc.
  • Calculate and process manual cheques when required.
  • Process cancellations and maintain log and balanced control account for audit purposes.
  • Ensure all legal requirements regarding documentation and statutory deductions for involuntary separations are met; all calculations for gross payment are authorized and verified.
  • Issue correct Records of Employment in all required instances (leave, sick, termination).
  • Respond to all Employment Insurance inquiries on gross earnings, insurable earnings, and insurable week.
  • Communicate and coordinate changes related to pension and benefits to other team members in a timely manner.
  • Process and distribute various reports (SWAN, STD, New Hires & Terminations, Unions, WSIB, etc.) as required.
  • Create and maintain employee e-files and ensure all documents are filed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain sub-systems for salary splits for Navision cost center accuracy and year-to-date (YTD) employee cost center files for Case Tracking System and Ministry budget reporting requirements.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries (internal and external) in a professional manner, ensuring accurate and informative data to appropriate parties while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Assist in other tasks as assigned or required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Accounting or Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years payroll experience.
  • Demonstrated computerized payroll experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel & Word skills.
  • Good mathematical and accounting skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
