The location in Montreal, (Quebec, Canada), is seeking talent to fill the position of Manager, Sustainability Standards & Regulations. This job is full-time permanent.
Reporting to Paper Excellence's Director of Sustainability, your role supporting the Paper Excellence Group of companies will be to serve as an internal expert on sustainability/ESG standards and regulations, monitor and track public policy & regulation related to ESG, manage and monitor trends & developments related to international sustainability/ESG standards and frameworks.
You will also design, monitor and adapt Paper Excellence (PE)’s global sustainability policy framework, help define and implement PE’s ESG Management System in collaboration with BUs and issue experts and track ESG ratings, trends and developments.
Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Monitor and track emerging and potential public policy & regulations related to ESG standards and reporting, working cross-functionally with BUs, Finance, Public Affairs, Communications and Legal
- Help develop the company’s approach to reporting under Europe’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) in collaboration with Finance
- Provide expertise and insight on ESG-related regulations, e.g. SEC Climate Rule, Canada’s Fighting Against Child and Forced Labour Act
- Provide expertise and insight on emerging sustainability standards, ie. International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB)
- Manage internal policy analysis to ensure company-wide alignment with sustainability best practices & standards
- Recommend and lead changes to the company’s policy framework
- Help prepare annual PE Group Sustainability Report(s)
- Work on preparing reports to meet company commitments (GRI, CDP, TCFD, EcoVadis, Book Chain, EPAT)
- Support preparation of other stakeholder collateral like customer surveys, questionnaires and other
- Provide advice and guidance to BUs, corporate functions and individual operations for enhancing sustainability disclosures
- Actively contribute to positioning PE as a sustainability leader, sharing success stories through external, customer and stakeholder engagement
- Engage with sustainability rating agencies and other key stakeholders in the sustainability space
- Provide the Team with regular insight on emerging ESG issues Provide regular benchmarking of PE’s reporting practices in comparison to industry peers
Key Skills:
- Firm grasp of the intricacies of sustainability/ESG standards and regulations
- Command of public policy & regulation related to sustainability, most notably climate/carbon, DEI, human rights, supply chain due diligence
- Profound knowledge of trends & developments related to international sustainability/ESG standards and frameworks, such as CDP, TCFD and TNFD, as well as ESG ratings, such as Sustainalytics and S&P’s CSA
- Ability to align data and disclosures with requirements utilizing diligent practices and processes
- Capacity to analyze, interpret and harness data in the context of strategic and tactical decision-making, while contributing to content development
- Ease with navigating political relationships, within and outside organizations
- Collaborative team player and communicator
- English required*, bilingual in French and English is a strong asset
*This is required since as part of this function, you will have to intervene with customers, partners and/or our American subsidiaries on a recurring basis, both orally and in writing.
Professional Experience/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in sustainability or a related field
- At least 7 to 10 years of experience working in sustainability, with at least 5 years of experience working directly with sustainability/ESG standards, such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the Sustainability Accountability Standards Board (SASB), the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS); experience in the forest sector an asset.
