Job Title: Monitoring & Evaluation Manager, Forests & Fiber

At Domtar, we are committed to sustainable forest management practices and responsible fiber sourcing. We are seeking a highly skilled Monitoring & Evaluation Manager, Forests & Fiber to contribute to our efforts.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks for sustainable forest management and fiber sourcing initiatives.
  • Support the Sustainability team in aggregating and reporting environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data.
  • Provide technical expertise on monitoring techniques, KPIs, and innovations related to sustainable forest management and fiber sourcing.
Sustainable Forest Management:
  • Collaborate with business units to monitor and evaluate sustainable forest management practices in line with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with key stakeholders on company processes and practices.
  • Monitor and manage key environmental concerns, including boreal forest conservation, caribou habitat, Intact Forest Landscapes (IFL), and Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC).
Fiber Sourcing and Certification:
  • Work with business units to develop monitoring and engagement plans for sustainable fiber sourcing.
  • Participate in technical working groups and contribute to industry policies and standards related to forest management and chain-of-custody certifications.
Team Development:
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities on sustainable forest management and fiber sourcing for team members and other teams.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in monitoring and evaluation.
  • Extensive knowledge of forest management practices, regulations, and key environmental concerns in Canada and the United States.
  • Knowledge of social engagement processes and monitoring frameworks preferred.
  • Familiarity with GIS and other forest management tools.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in policy development and advocacy within the forestry sector.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, global organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
  • Experience working with NGOs, regulatory bodies, and industry groups.
  • Willingness to travel up to 35-50%.
