Position Overview


The R&D Project Manager is responsible for orchestrating and overseeing projects from inception through to production. This dynamic role involves client consultations, close collaboration with cross-functional teams, meticulous project planning, and the incorporation of cutting-edge technologies to enhance project outcomes. They are expected to lead and manage the R&D team and projects, with a strong focus on innovation and SolidWorks design proficiency.


Roles & Responsibilities


  • Plan, initiate, and execute research and development projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to project goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project objectives and develop comprehensive project plans.
  • International travel is required based on specific project demands.
  • Manage project budgets, track expenses, and allocate resources effectively to achieve project milestones.
  • Conduct regular project status meetings to keep team members aligned and informed.
  • Utilize SolidWorks expertise to create and review 3D models, prototypes, and designs for R&D projects.
  • Oversee research activities, including literature reviews, experiments, and data analysis, to support project objectives.
  • Identify potential risks and challenges, and proactively develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality control measures.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the R&D team.
  • Monitor project progress, identify bottlenecks, and take corrective actions as needed to keep projects on track.
  • Establish strong communication channels to report project updates to senior management.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to project specifications, progress reports, and outcomes.
  • Evaluate and implement the latest technologies and trends in research and development.
  • Maintain a work environment where employee contributions are valued, coaching and feedback are provided, and employee performance is reviewed and discussed quarterly.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.


Education & Qualifications


  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is required.
  • A master’s degree in mechanical engineering is an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in project management is an asset.
  • A Professional Engineer certification is required.
  • Experience in hydronic design would be considered an asset.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience utilizing CAD software is essential, with proficiency in Solidworks modeling and design.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience managing projects.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively to solve problems.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
  • A sound understanding of mathematics, engineering principles, and relevant industry standards.
  • Exceptional organizational and reporting skills.
  • Experience with 3D printing, including slicer software operation and 3D printing design.
  • Experience with designing for CNC machining is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with product development is a plus.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is mandatory.

Salary


  • Competitive hourly wage ranging from $36 to $43 per hour.
