Position Overview


The R&D Lead is responsible for managing products from concept through to prototype and final product development. This role involves CAD design, prototyping, project management, and material sourcing to turn ideas into tangible, market-ready solutions. This R&D Lead will have a blend of technical expertise, creative thinking, and leadership skills to drive our R&D projects to successful completion.


Roles & Responsibilities


  • Drive the development of prototypes, utilizing cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to turn concepts into functional prototypes for testing and evaluation.
  • Utilize CAD software to create detailed designs and blueprints for new products, ensuring specifications meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
  • Oversee R&D projects from inception to completion, managing timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure project goals are met on time and within cost constraints.
  • Monitor product testing phases, analyzing data to identify areas for improvement, ensure compliance with industry standards, and validate product performance against project objectives.
  • Outsource materials and custom components, and work with the purchasing department to ensure all components are ordered.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, competitor products, and advancements in technology to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, certifications, and best practices throughout the product development process.
  • Work closely with teams across the organization, including manufacturing, marketing, and sales, to ensure R&D projects align with overall business goals and customer needs.
  • Prepare and maintain various project reports and records.
  • Present project progress to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot 3D printers and CNC machines as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education & Qualifications


  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience utilizing CAD software is essential, with proficiency in Solidworks modelling and design.
  • An EIT engineering certification is required, and a Professional Engineer certification is a plus.
  • Strong project management skills, with a track record of leading successful projects.
  • Experience with 3D printing, including slicer software operation and 3D printing design.
  • Experience with designing for CNC machining is considered an asset.
  • Technical proficiency in hydronics, plastics, and electronics, with the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively to solve problems.
  • Exceptional organizational, reporting, and time management abilities.
  • A sound understanding of mathematics, physics, engineering principles, and relevant industry standards.
  • Previous experience with product development is a plus.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is mandatory.
