Child Care Program Assistant - Children's Services ** Please note that the split shift position will work two 3.5-hour shifts per day (6:30am - 10:00am and 2:30pm - 6:00pm; these times may be amended based on centre location and operational needs). During school break periods, these positions may be straight, full day shifts. Reporting to the Child Care Supervisor, this position is responsible to assist in the implementation of a child care program that meets the physical, emotional, social and intellectual development of each child within the program. The incumbent will:- Assist with the daily operation of the centre including supervision of children to meet their physical and health and safety needs- Adhere to all related/applicable procedures, protocols guidelines and legislation in the performance of duties such as following dietary and allergy instructions, employing appropriate hand washing and toy/equipment cleaning techniques, setting up equipment and activity centres, sanitizing the kitchen and washroom facilities as required, etc.- Provide quality service to parents/guardians through the exchange of information regarding their child's day, the daily program and their child's development- Assist with gathering pertinent information for pedagogical documentation and complete the Looksee checklist- Assist in the planning of special events (e.g. field trips, community events, public displays)- Participate in training opportunities (both mandatory and professional development) and staff meetings- Enhance the Program by using community involvement to encourage learning of new experiences for the childrenThe successful candidate will possess:- A Grade 12 diploma- A valid/current Standard First Aid Certification and Infant and Child CPR Certification- Experience working with children- Knowledge of the Children's Services Division and the Directly Operated Policies and Procedures, Regional policies and procedures as well as knowledge of the various acts and legislation that govern child care (Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, Child and Family Services Act, Health Protection and Promotion Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, WHMIS, etc.- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work under pressure in stressful situations- The ability to work as part of a team and independently- Proficient time management and behaviour management skillsAdditional courses and training in child care will be considered assets. CUPE 1764 Salary Grade 3 This position is with Salary Grade 3 and will be paid at the following hourly rates:- Start: $33.32 - Six Month: $35.17 - Job: $37.02 Conditions of Employment All applicants are expected to comply with the Region of Durham's Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct Policies throughout the recruitment process.
