**Licensed Child Care Centre in Durham Region is seeking;**

**COOKS for Child Care Centre in AJAX/OSHAWA**

**Demonstrates**:

- Prepare ingredients for cooking, including: Wash, peel and chop fresh fruits and vegetables; weigh, measure, and mix ingredients.
- Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards, and food preparation checklist.
- Prepare cold foods.
- Monitor food quality while preparing food.
- Operate ovens, stoves and microwaves
- Check and ensure the correctness of the temperature of appliances and food.
- Test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently.
- Serve food in proper portions onto proper receptacles.
- Wash and disinfect kitchen area, tables, tools, knives, and equipment.
- Maintain storage, refrigerator and freezer.

**Physical requirements**:
This position requires general physical wellness and ability:

- Stand or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift.
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
- Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 30-35 pounds without assistance.
- Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors.

- Listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees.
- Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards.
- Professional cooking diploma is required (or will be required to take once hired)
- Three (3) to five (5) years’ culinary experience.
- Bilingual (French is an asset)
- Knowledge of sanitation and safety practices / MAPAQ.
- A successful Police Check is required.
- Will be required to also work in classroom with children

**Must Have**: Must have previous child care experience, Standard First Aid and CPR “C”, 2 stepTB test, Health clearance to work with young children, Criminal Reference Check and knowledge of Child Care and Early Year’s Act. Speaking French is an asset.
