Data Risk Consultant


Apex Systems is a global IT services provider, and our staffing practice has an opening for an IT Project Manager who has strong experience within Risk, Data Governance and Management at our client, a Big 5 bank.


Client: Big 5 Bank

Location: Downtown Toronto. 1-2 days per week in office

Duration of Contract/Perm: 6-month rolling contract, with strong intention/opportunity of conversion

Hours/week: 37.5 hrs


Responsibilities:

  • Data Risk Management Champion: Develop and implement strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate data-related risks across the enterprise.
  • Data Governance Expert: Drive enhancements to our Data Governance framework, ensuring data quality, availability, and compliance with established policies and standards.
  • Risk Analytics & Reporting Powerhouse: Leverage data analysis skills (SQL, Excel, BI tools) to create reports and dashboards that illuminate business performance and key risk metrics.
  • Collaborative Risk Partner: Work closely with Risk, Compliance, and Technology teams to integrate data & records management considerations into the broader risk management framework.
  • Data Quality & Protection Advocate: Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement data quality and data protection standards, improving overall information security posture.
  • Communication & Knowledge Catalyst: Present risk analysis findings and translate complex data into actionable insights for decision-making. Provide consultative advice and guidance to senior leadership.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and adept at using modern data visualization tools (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Power Automate, Tableau).
  • Experienced in collaborating with various risk, control, and governance functions within an organization (Risk, Compliance, IT Governance, Legal, Audit).
  • Adept at facilitating productive meetings with councils, committees, and other stakeholders.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Data Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
  • 4-6 years of experience in data governance, data analysis, or information security risk management.
  • Strong understanding of data management best practices and data lifecycle management.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as SQL, Excel, Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience managing multiple tasks and prioritizing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
