Position Summary:

As a Technical Supplier Development & Category Specialist, you will collaborate closely with the Technical Supplier Development & Category Manager to oversee product development, testing, and procurement processes. Responsibilities include analyzing sample products, conducting thorough testing, documenting results, and implementing corrective actions as needed. You will also help manage procurement activities for assigned categories, monitoring supplier performance, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Your attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment will be essential for supporting departmental goals effectively.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Technical Supplier Development Specialist Role:

• Work closely with the Technical Supplier Development & Category Manager to support various aspects of product development and testing processes.

• Receive and analyze sample products, including food and packaging, in the test kitchen, under the direction of the manager.

• Arrange pick-ups and handle incoming samples efficiently, ensuring proper documentation of received items.

• Assist in the preparation of food products by cutting, building, and cooking assigned ingredients according to established protocols and recipes.

• Conduct thorough testing and evaluation of products, following established protocols and regulatory guidelines.

• Document all activities, including test results and operational data, accurately and efficiently for further analysis and reporting.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address any quality issues identified during testing and implement corrective actions as necessary.

• Consolidate product data and interpret results to provide insights for decision-making and process improvement.

• Prepare questionnaires, presentation slides, and other materials for operational purposes, ensuring clarity and accuracy.

• Consolidate operational test feedback and provide comprehensive reports to support decision-making processes.

• Adhere to correct procedures, policies, and health & safety guidelines at all times to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.

• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper sanitation in the test kitchen area, including regular cleaning of equipment and work surfaces.

• Follow given instructions closely when performing routine tasks and seek clarification as needed to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

• Maintain and manage inventory of supplies and materials necessary for testing and product development activities.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Technical Supplier Development & Category Manager to support departmental goals and initiatives.


Category Specialist Role:

• Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with vendors and suppliers for quality goods/services, managing procurement activities for assigned small categories such as ingredients, packaging materials, and equipment.

• Administer purchasing procedures, source suppliers, assist in contract negotiations, to secure competitive pricing while maintaining quality standards.

• Review purchases for cost reduction opportunities, collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with business objectives, and maintain accurate records of contracts and vendor communications.

• Collaborate with teams to align procurement with organizational goals, implement process improvements

• Coordinate with internal departments to forecast procurement needs, monitor market trends and supplier performance to optimize purchasing decisions, analyze data to identify areas for efficiency and cost savings in procurement processes, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company policies in procurement activities.


CORE SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:


• Degree or Diploma in Food Science or related field from a recognized University or College

• 2-3 years’ experience in a similar capacity, in food manufacturing or food service industry.

• Solid understanding of services, food and/or packaging sourcing is an asset.

• Proficient in handling, preparing, and tasting various meat samples, including chicken, beef, and pork.

• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Processes and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points is an asset.

• Computer literacy and experience with Laboratory Information Systems.

• Preference will be given to candidates, actively working towards their SCMP – Supply Chain Management Professional, SCMA or equivalent.


WORKING CONDITIONS:


• Primarily in an open office environment and closed testing facilities (test kitchen), standing for extended periods of time

• Heavy lifting may be required (up to 40 lbs)

• The incumbent may need to be in the office more frequently to receive and process samples
