Great opportunity to get your foot in the door with a leading company specializing in creating global visual content for customer around the globe The Global Search Data Linguist is a computational linguist who develops, manages, and maintains the Company’s search vocabulary, while promoting workflows and technologies such as NLP and linked data to increase efficiency, reducing cost, and provide industry leading search for global customers. This position works closely with Global Vocabulary Manager, the Global Search Vocabulary Analyst, Search Editors, and Data Science team to ensure that vocabulary development and processes are consistent across all languages, and that the quality and prioritization of vocabulary translation outsourcing and internal processing is done according to customer needs and standards.



Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates search for assets on company Images websites by ensuring that the controlled vocabulary meets the needs of global customers for all company products and web sites in all target markets
  • Manages the translation of the controlled vocabulary in all supported languages – including selection of material, shipment to third party as needed, and QA of third-party translation.
  • Utilize workflows and technologies such as NLP methodologies/techniques, knowledge graph connections, and SQL queries of customer data to guarantee accuracy and quality of vocabulary work.
  • Develops and optimizes new approaches and processes for Search Vocabulary localization with a goal of achieving high efficiency while retaining established industry leading standards.
  • Create documentation on projects and POC proposals to combine the use of new technologies to search vocabulary localization and search vocabulary utilization.
  • Conducts research and analysis to identify customer trends.
  • Generates search engine and/or vocabulary ideas for implementation and identifies best methods for prioritization of vocabulary work across platforms and languages
  • Partners cross-functionally to ensure vocabulary work and guideline documentation best supports search and site needs across languages
  • Assists in the development of tools and software aimed at improving the quality of service offered to users of the Company’s images vocabulary
  • Trains and assist new and existing users of internal and external search systems.


Required Skills:

  • Experience as linguist applying NLP methodologies in academic or IT industry positions
  • Metadata management experience.
  • Localization project management experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of online search systems, search vocabulary rules and processes, and keywording standards.
  • Experience working in a customer focused environment preferred
  • Native speaker of one or more of the core non-English languages preferred
  • English fluency required
  • Familiarity with controlled vocabulary management principles and their application within a commercial environment.
  • A highly articulate communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Significant computer proficiency with an aptitude for mastering software systems.
  • Ability to work successfully within a global team involving regular communication with remote team members.
  • Detail oriented while able to grasp big picture impact.
  • Able to maintain quality while working to tight deadlines
  • A self-motivated, highly organized, creative individual.


Education:

  • MA or higher degree in a Linguistic field required
  • Ph.D. preferred
